Don't judge! LOL! Free lunches from the drug reps - ME

a major perk of working in a doctor's office. You take that away and all you have is a chaotic job with a paycheck is that is barely one step above working for an MT service!

I did the same thing as the OP three years ago. I had been laid off from one too many hospital MT jobs due to outsourcing. I refused to go back to work for any of the services making peanuts and worrying about not having enough work, etc. So took a job at a local doctor's office 7 miles from my home. The location was great, the doctors were great, and the office staff was, well, okay. You know how women can be especially in an office setting. I figured after 20+ years, I was never going to be an MT again.

I got really lucky though. A year and a half working for the doctor's office, a little rural hospital in a town about 20 miles from me advertised for an MT in one of the local free newspapers. I sent in my resume. For the last year, I have worked in the office at this hospital in transcription and I LOVE IT! I am so grateful to be back in MT. I have a newfound love for my profession again! Yes, the women I work can get catty and irritable and yes sometimes there are little arguments here and there, but I just smile, put my headphones on and type. I don't get involved in all the nonsense because I know how lucky I am to have found this job.

So my advice to the OP is hold out until you find something you want and good luck to ya!
