Steroid injection clarification - bmarie320

Posted: Jan 17, 2014

I have an orthopedist testifying re an subacromial steroid injection for bursitis. He says, "I need a 43 and 3," in re to the shot itself. I can't find anything on this. I am only guessing that 43 is a milligram or dose, and 3 might be the size of the needle? I don't know how to write this. Does anyone know?

Thanks!

I don't know, either, but I'm anxious to find out the answer. I've never heard of that.

What does "testifying" mean? - Odd phrasing for testimony

Wondering if you are an MT or court reporter trying to do MT.

If you Google steroid injection techniques, you will see that quite often an anesthetic is mixed into the corticosteroid. If you know which steroid, you can look up the usual amounts for the particular joint or bursa.

So, Google subacromial injection technique and find the youtube video showing it. It is called "How to give a subacromial injection." The physician who demonstrates tells you that the typical injection he uses is 40 mg of Kenalog and 4 ml of 1% of lidocaine.

Since that is proportional to 43 and 3, you are hearing the same type of thing ... steroid and anesthetic mixture. However, unless he told you what they were, you cannot know which steroid or anesthetic for certain.

If you are taking actual testimony, I would use exactly what he said as "43 and 3."

the 3 probably is the length of the needle - in my experience

They usually say 1-1/2-inch needle up to 6-inch needle; 43 is an odd dosage if that is for a medication, and would certainly not be the gauge of the needle.

But, the doctor left the door open to too many variables. I would transcribe it verbatim, just as you have in this example. You can't guess at what you don't know.

Monitoring For Epidural Steroid Injection
Aug 06, 2013

I'm doing a report for an epidural steroid injection for a doctor who speaks extremely fast.  I've done reports for him in the past but can't seem to find my sample reports for him - they seem to have disappeared into thin air!  I really don't want to have to send it to QA.  I'm hoping someone can help.   He says:  "A timeout was performed.  _____ monitoring _____ blood pressure and pulse oximetry were placed."    Any ideas?&nb ...

Clarification Of QC%
Dec 23, 2014

Has anyone else had a very high QC% these last two weeks? Mine has been off the chart, as in, higher than it's ever been and not matching what I'm actually sending to QC myself.  It also doesn't match what's in FIESA (which would also include files that go to QC automatically). Anyone else have this issue?  I asked my TSM and she said, "The percentages come straight from FIESA and what's being reviewed."  As in, avoided the question.  With them back ...
