VR pay per report - MT2020

Posted: Nov 26, 2009

I interview with a company and they pay per report for VR.  I haven't heard anyone talking that.  They pay 60 to 70 cents per report.  Is this good?  Feedback is appreciated.  Thanks guys!!

I can tell you what I have made this morning so far - VR here

[ In Reply To ..]
My answer would probably be no, I make 4 cpl and 4 of my reports this morning would be for each 1 typed 3.84, 4.56, 4.48 and 2.84, so the answer definitely would be no.

I type around 50-65 reports a day depending on the length, so if top pay - 70 cents at 65 reports that is only $45.50

.

you should have an idea of how many reports you can do during your work time, - just do the math on that

by the way, how many pages or these reports, I type some 2-3 - perhaps 4 pages in 1 report

70 cents per report explained. - Tired&CrankyMT

You would seriously be selling yourself short accepting this position. The 70 cent per report would probably only work in your favor maybe once or twice with a really short progress note that's no more than 1 minute in length and no more than 15 lines.

Here's a breakdown of maximum lines per report in order for this to be on par with how other MTSOs pay for VR/SR editing:

15.555 lines @ 0.045 cpl = $0.70 cents per report.
17.5 lines @ $0.04 cpl = $0.70 cents per report.
20 lines @ $0.035 cpl = $0.70 cents per report.
23.33 lines @ $0.03 cpl = $0.70 cents per report.
28 lines @ 0.025 cpl = $0.70 cents per report.
35 lines @ $0.02 cpl = $0.70 cents per report.

If the above still doesn't explain how horrible a rate this is, take your current daily production, I'll use 1000 lines. Count up how many reports it took you to get those lines. Multiply your number of reports x $0.70 cents. Write that figure down, label it CRAP-A.
Take your current transcription rate per line and divide that by 2. Consider this your editing rate per line. Now multiply that figure by 1000 lines produced. Write this new figure down and call it CRAP-B.
Subtract CRAP-A from CRAP-B and end up with the difference of TOTAL CRAP.

Half the going rate of transcription for VR/SR editing is enough of a rip off, being paid this poorly per report is just outrageous.

Hope this helps and good luck finding a decent company with a better pay structure.

Happy Thanksgiving.

I only hear people saying they make like 3 or 4 cents a line doing VR, so I really didn't know. This is all new to me. If its just editing, then can't you do more reports? Please be patient and forgive my ignorance.

depends on what VR program you will be using also. Sometime it is easier to just type the report from scratch than all the editing you may be doing. You may have to be editing every sentence, some programs are so bad.

You might be able to do more reports, but the length of those reports is, sm - bbbbb

going to make a difference. If you were getting paid by the line, a very long report you would be paid more. It is explained in the response above. You would have to VR 150 reports a day to make $105 a day, I don't know of anyone doing 150 reports a day. That would be $18.75 an hour. It sounds like you are already doing VR. If so, then you should be able to figure out the number or reports you are already doing VR on a day and just do as the other poster suggested. I too think this would not work out. You would be getting less pay for long reports. Being paid by the line is a better situation, then being paid by the report. I worked in the legal field and we paid our transcriptions years ago per page, and I believe at that time, it was something like 80 cents a PAGE, so to me 70 cents per report seems rather low considering those reports could have a number of pages in them that could add up to having been more money per report had you been paid by the line. Our rate per line is 0.045 for VR, and I know of another company that pays a little over 5 cents a line for VR (as an IC), so it is just going to depend on the company you work for and what type of position you are looking for as some of those companies will pay more per line for their ICs.
I want to know, do you know other people here who - VR here
[ In Reply To ..]
actually do VR? I wondered where you got the $18.75 an hour and you suad donĂ¢€™t know people who make more an hour.
I said I don't know of anyone doing 150 reports a day, don't know where, sm - I came up with the 18.75 an hour
[ In Reply To ..]
That was probably just a mistake on my part. I was probably adding things up and wrote that number down and used it instead of the one I should have used for figuring out if you were to type 150 reports a day at 70 cents a report. I know a few people who do VR. I know lot of people in transcription who make more than $18.75 an hour.

Let's say you decide that you need to earn $100 per day.

In order for you to earn $100, you would have to edit a total of 142.85 reports every day. This is assuming you will receive the higher end pay of $0.70 per report.

In order for you to earn $100 at $0.60 per report, you have to edit a total of 166.66 reports daily.

$100 divided by $0.70 = 142.85 reports daily.
$100 divided by $0.60 = 166.66 reports daily.

That is such an awful lot of work to be doing at such a measly rate. Even editors in love with VR/SR who claim to make upwards of $100 daily editing would agree they couldn't (and don't) edit anywhere close to that amount of reports daily.

Now, take that same $100 you need to earn and use a per line rate of 4 cpl. You would need to edit 2,500 lines daily.

$100 goal divided by $0.04 per line editing = 2,500 lines edited daily.

Even if I use a small figure of 20 lines per report, it still comes out to less files required to reach that $100 daily goal.

2500 divided by 20 lines = 125 reports to edit.

In the real world, most reports have more than 20 lines each, which means the total amount of reports to edit is less to reach your goal of $100 a day when being paid PER LINE...but, being paid PER REPORT, the number of files needed to edit never changes unless you set yourself a different goal amount to reach daily.

No matter which way you figure this out, being paid that poorly per report leaves you earning much less and working way too hard, almost to the point that YOU would be paying the company to work for them.

5 page report earns $0.70.
1/2 page report earns $0.70.
2 page report earns $0.70.
1 page report earns $0.70.
Repeat this another 138.75 times and you will finally earn your daily goal of $100.

$0.04 cpl x 50 lines = $2.00 for report.
$0.04 cpl x 30 lines = $1.20 for report.
$0.04 cpl x 20 lines = $0.80 for report.
$0.04 cpl x 10 lines = $0.40 for report.

$2.00 minus 0.70 = $1.30 less in your pocket.
$1.20 minus 0.70 = 50 cents less in your pocket.
$0.80 minus 0.70 = 10 cents less in your pocket.
$0.40 minus 0.70 = 30 cents in your favor.

I hope this further explains it for you.

My advice to you is to tell them thanks, but no thanks and forget this company exists.
