Suggestions for headset? - Lucy

Posted: Mar 24, 2012

I'm having trouble discerning 15 from 50 and 16 from 60, and I think I'm due a new wired headset. I'm using some Sony earbuds now, but I'm open to other types. I wouldn't like to go over $100. Any suggestions?

I use the Sony noise-cancelling headset (bought at Target for $50,sometimes they are $40). I also have trouble discerning 15 from 50 and the like, but have always had that problem and have been doing this for over 25 years... sometimes it's the MD who is dictating. Many times though, a little "red flag" goes off if they are saying 15 and you know it is 50... just comes with knowing all the medications and dosages.

Use the same Sony noise-cancelling headset plus s/m - anonmt

EQ 50 3-band stereo equalizer attached to the headphones. Helps to "fine tune" the digital sounds. As well, the noise-canceling headphones really work.

Well I've used the ones they gave us with Lanier back in the day, and I thought they were great. When I started working as an independent contractor more I got myself some noise cancelling ones and I'm sorry I've been through two different sets and they don't do ANYTHING for me at all. I've found SONY's ear buds work best. My girlfriend likes Skull Candy, but the Sony's stay in my ears better. They are $15-20 depending on when I get them and I keep a spare in the closet because I have a tendency to drop them in my tea when getting up from the desk fast. They have lasted through the tea dunking, but I just keep a spare because I don't want to have the ONE time they don't last to be on a day that the roads are iced over or it's 110 degrees out and I don't feel like going out in either ;)

I like the earbuds but they hurt one ear all the time, but I also like the aluminum stethoscope type (not plastic). Also those light weight plastic horseshoe-shaped headphones with the little volume control dial attached right to the wire so you can quickly change the volume.

It's funny how we are all so different... - AnonToo

I remember working with one lady, years ago, she was at that time a transcriptionist since gosh the mid 1950s. Anyway she loved her aluminum ones. I never liked those that much, but my kids like different ear thingies than me. I didn't realize until the last few years that they are all slightly different. I lucked out with the Sonys I think. My husband prefers HEAD PHONES, think BIG all encompassing head phones! Not me, and it's not because of my hair ;)

I would like the big headphones if I were listening to the radio or watching TV. but for transcription, I did different ones, the aluminum ones were given to me when I used a 2plug(prong) dictaphone c phone. but the one plug PC connection forced me to look for something else. and I found them to best (for what I can afford) and they are over 30 bucks. they are flimsy but actually have good sound quality and I can also hear what is going on around me. I still have to have the TV on or the radio on when I work.

That's what I use (in pink) - Love Em!

I've had this set about a year and so far, so good with clarity, quality, etc. Plus I just adore the fact they're pink (kinda livens up my set-up a bit).

Now if only I could find a sturdy pink keyboard, I'd snap that up, too, lol!

They are right at $100.00 but fantastic noise blocking. Cannot hear the phone 2 feet from me. They are over-the-head and get a little hot sometimes, but I cannot do without them.

I can't use noise cancelling varieties - Silly me

If all sound is blocked out but the dictation, I always feel like someone could be creeping up on me and I don't hear them or something.

Yes, I know, far too many horror movies...I have to hear a bit of background noise to concentrate (I can't sleep without the TV on, either, even with my husband beside me, otherwise I hear every noise in the house and am convinced there's an intruder...)

Got My New Headset
Aug 23, 2011

I am sorry to say that my old ones work better for me.  I think they would be ok, but I get a lot of (what I think is) cellphone audio, and they just don't work as well for that.  I have tried switching back and forth while working to test them, and then I always end up using my old ones.   I like the way they feel though.  It was worth a try. ...

At the moment I have my set and computer up as far as they will go and it will be easier if I could somehow get it louder. Thanks for your help. ...

Recommend A Headset, Please

I'm looking to purchase a new headset for transcription.  I had a Philips SHM-7500 and it lasted for 6 years. It's no longer being sold other than on E-bay from Korea ;) I have heard good things about both the Logitech h540 and the Spectra USB Transcription Headset, two totally different styles. Any input/recommendations for these or any others? I use it on the computer, not for cassette tapes. The Philips had the open ear cushions while the Logitech has flat padding. ...

Aluminum Stethoscope Headset
Oct 01, 2011

I want to get an aluminum stethoscope headset because I used to use one onsite at the cancer center I worked for and absolutely loved it.  I do have a question though.  What type of plug-in would I need?  I want to plug it into my speaker and I now use the Emdat Inscribe platform.  I don't think a USB connection would work for me since I wouldn't be able to plug it into the speaker, so I would guess I would need the prong type plug-in.  Most of the time wh ...
