Any suggestions for multispeaker transcriptions? - MT

This is the second company I have tested for for non-medical transcription work, transcribing meetings, etc. I do fine with presentations, i.e. speaker addressing audience. The multispeaker settings, however, leave me flustered. I sometimes find it difficult discerning the various voices when they sound simiilar or are talking over each other. If they are very different voices, I don't have any problem.

This is obviously an "ear" thing. Perhaps I'm just not used to training my attention on picking out the various voices. Can any experienced transcriptionists here give the rest of us some advice? Perhaps we can all benefit from your wisdom. :)

I was taught to put (M) for male and (F) for female and (inaudible) if too many people were talking at once and I couldn't catch what they were saying.

I find that very helpful for multispeaker transcription.

When I was doing legal transcription, I had to use an audio player called TheRecord Player. You can do a Google search for TheRecord Player and it should come up as something like court recording or police interview. It has different microphones that you can turn off for different speakers. One issue with this is if they are moving around as they are talking. It does get confusing then. Not sure if this would be the same setting where they would use more than one microphone. Good luck! I know I tried doing that kind of transcription and could never get my accuracy of speakers up enough to get a job.

I did that for a while. If you don't know who is speaking, you can put "male voice" or "female voice #1" - sometimes you have a list of names but that doesn't help when you don't know who is who unless they introduce themselves. Sometimes they all talk at once and you just put [multiple speakers] or something to that effect. I hope this helps.

Anyone have any recent info on "Preferred Transcriptions?" Does anyone know anything about Transcriptions Express? In researching them I found 3 complaints on the Rip Off Report about them. They, evidently, charge for early termination, is this standard? They also charge for equipment if you don't have any. I think this is just a way for some companies to increase their bottom line. It sounds like these were just disgruntled ex-employees. Stay AWAY froim Chase Transcriptionis!!I jumped through hoops to get hired at this company. Took an oral test over the phone and aced it. Then took test on-line and aced it. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY. They are behind paying IC's 5 months and beyond. Even at 50 cents an audio minute, if you get a 10-minute report that would equate to $5.00. Usually it takes 30 minutes to do a 10-minute report so that would mean one would receive $10.00 an hour. If only getting 40 cents, that's $8.00 an hour. PFFT! I don't see how this is any improvement over our standard slave wages, yet their ad sounds like they invented the wheel or sliced bread. I used to FOR YEARS and years, just hit shift H and typed in cur and it spelled </CURRENT MEDICATIONS/> Now with this 6.1 upgrade, it spells out </CURRENT ALLERGIES/> and I am messing up big time with reports. I kept running out of work on the weekend and on the backlog I could see that there were jobs in the red that I normally work on for backup but they were not flowing to me.
