i'm going to do a test.... - utilization hours...

Posted: Feb 26, 2015

This is when your in a report and the voice is not going OR you are signed in and sitting there with no job open, correct?? The other day I had to take a quick break, I put a heavy book on my foot pedal so it continued to play, then just backed it up when I got back.

My hours are always below... but I'm rarely goofing off. I dont get it. From here forward Im going to have the pedal going at all times when in a job, even when researching, then back it up where I need it. Then at the end I will see. I rarely goof off and recently have paid more attention to it yet it is still same and below. Makes no sense to me. It is the voice player going, correct??????

I'm lost here. Are you saying you get - automatically clocked out

if you take a break or research for too long?

no - sm

we are supposed to have 85% or higher utilization hours each week. I can never make it yet don't goof off. I heard this counts as time you are in a report but the voice is not playing or you are logged in let's say and not in a job and off doing other things. I heard that on this board. Correct me if I am wrong. If I constantly play my foot pedal then when in jobs I should be at 100% when the week is over. I want to test it out b/c I don't see how mine is so low. I dont spend too long on research and do not goof off.

Still lost. What platform are you on? - sm

I have no way of determining my percentage of time on or off the foot pedal. I think we must be on different platforms???

Yep - I believe that is right!

If I have a long report, I put a weight on the foot pedal and go to the bathroom, look things up, or whatever I have to do and rewind when I come back. How ridiculous and disgusting that we have to stoop to this! I hate Nuance. Work anywhere else and you are allowed breaks and not penalized for it!

you are the ONLY one who does this - nm

[ In Reply To ..]

No she isn't...I've done variations on what she does - not putting a weight on it but

tapping it every once in a while if I take a break....find I have to research a little bit too long (which I really don't do anymore though).....so I am sure she isn't the only one having to stoop to SOMETHING like that in order to get thru Nuance's BS.
I do it too! - sm

I love those long reports; it's the only time I get a break!
unless your platform goes to sleep, there's no need for this, LOL - count me out

Inactive time - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I guess it depends on your platform, but your "system time" on webclock is the time that you are actively working in your platform (i.e., foot on pedal or typing). If you are dormant in the program for more than 20 seconds (whether you walked away from your desk, are researching something in a reference book or online), you are considered inactive and that counts against your clocked-in time. I know because it has happened to me before.

So, yes, keeping the foot pedal down on a long report so you can get a cup of coffee or go to the bathroom does help to keep your inactive time to a minimum.
you have no clue how things work - - sorry

I could say the same for you - sm

I did not make the statements in my above post for S and giggles. I know for a fact that is how it works ON MY PLATFORM. Maybe you're on a different platform; in which case, sure, maybe things are calculated differently. I made a statement based on the platform I have worked on for the past 9 years.
have you been doing that foot pedal thing for 9 years? - nm

once I figured it out, yes - x

I have to ask, please / see msg - anon

I don't get the point of this. It's not going to get you more LPH. And as long as your "variance hours" aren't over 3-4 hours (or whatever your manager says), this shouldn't matter either way. What am I missing?

I think - ME

Some platforms calculate inactive time as any time foot is not on the pedal or fingers on the keyboard. Mine thankfully does not at the moment, but that's why I left MM. The concept that we are paid on production, not hourly, made me so angry that they were monitoring my every keystroke. The stress was just too much. I will never do that again.
