Ugh - I hate AutoCorrect. I am considering - getting Instant Text..Can anyone

Posted: Nov 02, 2014

give me any advice on this program?  I've never used Instant Text before...or Autocorrect (used to work for MM - they had their own expander)....but now I have a job where I use MS Word.  It's taking forever to make my expanders....and now I am hearing that if you put too many in there it can slow things down?  And that it's easy to lose all of your expanders!

Does anyone love/hate Instant text as compared to AutoCorrect? Do you think it's worth the money?  I'm down to my last few bucks so can't really afford to buy it unless it is REALLY much better than AutoCorrect....help please!!!

If you are doing 95% VR does it really matter though? - Dont really use an expander doing VR...n/m

Having the best productivity tools - does matter

You will be faster which means a better paycheck, and you will spare your fingers.

Typing a few letters to have your expander execute all the finger-twisting keyboard shortcuts you need to press to correct VR mistakes is much easier and keeps your fingers on the home-row.

Editing may require new skills in creating macro-like expansions. Once they are done, you'll see the difference as you did when spending time on making lists of words and phrases.

Your VR must be a WHOLE LOT - better than mine

if you don't need to add/correct enough to use autocorrect/ShortHand or whatever. Lucky you!

I'm with you - expander gets in the way when editing - I use Edit Script

I have some macros that I use - when there is the end of a sentence and I need to change it to a comma, or a semicolon, etc. but the actual expander itself gets in the way and sometimes changes things that I don't want changed.

I do okay on my speed so I don't worry about it. It's easier for me this way. I use my mouse, too. I use some of the keyboard shortcuts, but I'm a mouse girl and always will be.

I tried Instant Text...SM - Old Anon

10 years back while working in-house and didn't really care for it. I used PRD in the olden days, which was pretty simple, and that's all I wanted. I didn't use the Instant Text at work and just used Autocorrect for the 9 years I was there and didn't have any problems with overloading it or losing anything. Now that I'm at home working for a MTSO, I have SpeedType. It's true you don't use expansions as much with editing, but for the few straight jobs I do, I can really fly. Whatever expansion program you buy (there are ones cheaper than Instant Text), their tech support can probably help you convert whatever you already have in your Autocorrect into the new program. I don't remember the names of the other programs, but I seem to remember a few mentioned in the $39-$49 range. Maybe others will weigh in on that.

Thanks for replying old anon! - That was helpful....n/m

IT7 - is better

than earlier version of Instant Text and much more usable and friendly.

Agree. I've used AutoCorrrect and Instant Text is - so much better

[ In Reply To ..]
I've only used Instant Text 7 so have no knowledge of earlier editions. I just wish I had bought it sooner. I found it easy to learn (though I still haven't used it to its full potential) and it's amazing how much it speeds up your production. I work in straight typing, so for me it is worth the money.
If you want to see for yourself - try it out

using the free download at link below.

You can import your .aco (MM) file and your .acl (Autocorrect) file with a few clicks.

IT is great - iseeee

I use it after changing accounts, agency, and twice losing everything I had to their systems, now I get to keep everything in IT it belongs to me. I like it very much. I used to use AutoInsert in Word which IS convenient as it kicks in as you type, however it would overflow and go crazy sometimes. IT will NEVER overflow. Also, their CSRs are very friendly and helpful and respond superfast, within 24/7.

Try out "Shorthand for Windows" - hb

[ In Reply To ..]
I use a really old-school version of expander called Shorthand for Windows, pcshorthand.com. I change the "pause" feature to "0" and it inserts everything instantly. I have over 3,000 things saved in mine and it doesn't slow down or anything. Also, they let you buy it or you can pay for it monthly, quarterly, etc. It is really cheap too. I also transcribe with Word, but it will work with any platform you use. They offer a 30 day free trial.

Instant Text versus Shorthand with Inscribe/Emdat.. - suzncatznkidz

[ In Reply To ..]
I had been using Shorthand for the past 10+ years and loved it! However, recently started working for a company that uses the Inscribe/Emdat platform, and Shorthand didn't work with it too well. Tried all the troubleshooting suggestions to fix the problem, but no go, so I downloaded the 30-day trial of Instant Text to try out, and so far it works very smoothly with Inscribe, and I was able to easily transfer all my Shorthand entries over to Instant Text. Just wanted you to know in case Inscribe was your platform.

Or is to so blasted expensive that no one can afford to become a doctor unless you are a foreign student? So freaking sick and tired of all these foreign dictators who speak so fast and sloppy. Question About Using AutoCorrect, Please
Sep 09, 2010

I was watching someone use an expander and when she misspelled her short form (she hit space and nothing happened), she backed up to the word and backed over the last misspelled 4 or so letters of a long string, and typed in some new ones, and the whole short form expanded the way she wanted.  Like txsdoisd was supposed to be txsdoerf, so the erf was backspaced over and replaced and the whole thing rolled out to, "Will AutoCorrect do this too?" :) Not really, but now I'm wondering if ...

Does Windows 7 Have An Autocorrect?
Dec 10, 2011

I'm starting with Transcend soon and will be having their program downloaded.  I bought a new Windows 7 computer and can't find the autocorrect.  My older computer is a Windows XP and autocorrect has always worked great for me.  I'll need to supply my own word expander program.  Should I use the old computer or is there an expander program that works great with Windows 7?  Money is tight for me right now so I was hoping to stay with autocorrect. ...

Does Anyone Use Strictly Autocorrect?
Sep 14, 2012

I've had a dreadful time with IT Pro (it keeps crashing Word, sends an error message, sometimes recovers my document or I simply end up losing documents). I've both called and written to the company but they refuse to help me because I bought it used from someone and say they don't support the older versions anymore. Well....I'm through with them, their horrible product, and their nonexistent help. Thankfully I didn't purchase the newer version if this is how they treat ...

Word Autocorrect
May 24, 2013

I have been blessed with being able to work for smaller companies for the last 9 years.I just started with a new company and the platform doesn't support Word so I can't use my autocorrect, which I have been building shortcuts in all this time. We have tried pcshorthand/speedtype and are having issues with the expansion. I so miss typing in Word. Is not supporting Word the trend of the future? Should I just accept it, or look for something that I can still use Word in? ...

Autocorrect Suggestion Box?
Jun 19, 2015

Hi, can anyone tell me if Autocorrect has a suggestion box that stays open while you type? I had been using Shorthand for 8 years and then just got a new job where they won't allow us to use anything but Autocorrect. It is their computer, a Thin Client, which does not allow you to upload anything. With Shorthand and Instant Text a suggestion box pops up showing you all the possible shortcuts and I can see in Autocorrect where you can type in your shortcut and the expansion that it repres ...

For EScription, Is AutoCorrect Of Shorthand Better, If I Do
Dec 19, 2009

AutoCorrect seems much easier to deal with, but won't handle long canned text, and there is no "normals" program in eScription I can add long reports to.   I cannot tweak Shorthand to my liking; no matter how much I try, I still have to fight to get a lot of terms to expand.  It's really annoying.  But it can handle unlimited entries and long blocks of Text that AutoCorrect can't. ...
