Transcription experience but looking for entry level MT - Faith Benghiat

Posted: Sep 26, 2012

Work has slowed down doing transcription in the entertainment business and I work for three companies.  I've had discharge summary experience in the past with light radiology. Does anyone know of any companies hiring newbies for MT work?  I can't stand not working.  Type 85 wpm, use Word and Express Scribe and a digital foot pedal.  U.S. citizen.

If I were you I'd start looking at the local hospitals and doctor offices. I got hired in radiology years ago with no experience, just school. Good Luck!

I dont understand your post - sm

You say work has slowed down doing transcription in the entertainment business... WHAT IS THAT?

Then, you say you work for 3 companies. (doing transcription??)

Then, you say you have discharge summary experience in the psat, but you need a company hiring newbies? WHAT? Thought you had 3 jobs and work is slow.

Please explain.

Not the OP, but I assumed this is what he/she means - PixMT

1) General transcription, which also includes the entertainment business
2) Could be 3 companies that are all related to general transcription
3) Since s/he does not have much MT-related transcription experience except for the discharge summary/light radiology, that could be why they are seeking for a company who's hiring those with less than a year's experience.

don't understand what is not understandable here. - she is perfectly clear to me. NM

go figure.

Faith, your content is clear enough. :) Don't do medical. - Work is very unstable and low pay, supply

of MTs greatly exceeding demand, leading to bad treatment, wages continually driven down. We have no leverage at all, and companies do whatever they want to us. We don't like it, we're free to leave.

Do anything else. How about editing depositions or minutes of board meetings? Non-medical.

I would be open to QA work if it's available.

Now that does not make sense... - QA is not entry level (NM)

Looking For Entry Level Medical Transcription Work In MN
Mar 03, 2010

Hi everyone. I am a recent graduate from Rasmussen online college with a 2 year degree in medical transcription. I just graduated in September. I did land a very very part time homed medical transcription job in mid November and was let go in January because the lady I subcontracted for told me she needed me to be perfect within 2 months and I wasn't delivering the kind of perfection she needed. I kept reminding her that I had 0 medical transcription experience before my education training ...

Entry Level Pay
Jun 10, 2011

Hi all, Just a quick question.  In all your years of experience, what would you think would be a fair starting pay (hourly please) at a smaller acute care hospital doing varied types of jobs?  I do a lot of typing for the actual hospital, the two clinics (one inside the hospital and our satellite clinic in another town) and physical therapy.   I do alot of transcription but I also have a lot of other medical records duties as well that I have to balance.  I do ...

Overqualified For Entry Level, Underqualified For Everything Else?????
Mar 26, 2010

Okay, here's the situation I am in. I graduated school in 2008, but i got hired before I even graduated and I have been transcribing IC for a local family practice for 3 years. Therefore, I have school + 3 years experience, just not in a hosptial or acute care setting, which seems to be everyone's requirement! I noticed someone said Spheris hires newbies so I checked out their site. For the new graduates, it says you must have graduated in the past 6 months or within the past year and ...

DATA ENTRY VS TRANSCRIPTION PAY
Mar 20, 2014

Data Entry Or Medical Transcription?
May 13, 2011

It seems that more and more companies, including some hospitals, are paying per line but then expecting you to do data entry, which of course you are NOT paid for. Just a few examples: Acute care on Dictaphone ExText/Word Client -- faxing, etc. McKisson -- Looking up and changing orders for radiographic studies Rad job posted here -- Entering patient demographics If an employer expects me to sit there and do data entry -- which has NO shortcuts -- IN ADDITION TO transcibing, then they' ...

Wikipedia Entry For Medical Transcription
Jan 01, 2013

During a lull in my workload (Happy New Year!), I googled Wiki's take on our profession.  I have to say I'm impressed with the description--pretty much every aspect of the evolution of medical transcription is covered, even the negative turn of events (VR, pay cuts, etc.) in recent years with regard to us MTs being unappreciated-and underpaid.  Thought you guys might want to check it out if you haven't already. ...

CLK Transcription - What An Insulting Pay Level
Sep 07, 2011

Really?  You're going to offer $21 an a/h when it takes 3 to 4 times the dictation length to complete a report?  That equates to LESS THAN THE FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE - BEFORE TAXES!!  People PLEASE do not accept this!! Even if you are a newbie just starting out in transcription the absolute MINUMUM you should accept is $40 an a/h!  What CLK is offering to pay is equal to off-shore wages.  General transcription is not difficult at all - far easier than medical, but it ...

I am a new graduate and need to find a job! I am also new to this site. I got the site info from a friend that has been doing transcription work for many years. No Transcription Experience
May 25, 2010

After a few days of arguing back and forth with my CCM about feedback issues, audit keeping me from earning full pay, inconsistencies, I finally had a conference call with CCM and QA sup as well.  I was angry, admittedly, wanted and was demaning to be taken off 100% for silly "critical feedbacks" (doctor clearly says "if" and you typed "is" CRITICAL FEEDBACK???.)   Asked how in the world us MTs can be faulted for cruddy ASR and/or dictator problems! (no answer)  Asked if eith ...

Has Anyone Had Experience Doing Any Other Transcription Besides Medical
Sep 10, 2011

I have become pretty miserable/bored lately.  I know its the job itself and I know what the future holds for it, but I can't go back to school right now to try to further my education for something else because I homeschool my kids and that is my first priority.  MT is just part time.  I've been MT'ing for close to 15 years and have never done any other transcribing.  I was just wondering if I wanted to venture out of medical and do general transcription w ...

ALPHA Transcription - Any Experience With This Company?
Jan 04, 2011

Has anyone had any experience with this company?  I sent my resume for a job posting and was contacted right away.  The fishy thing (to me anyway) was that they didn't even want me to TEST for the position!  What is that about?  EVERY MT position I have EVER been a candidate for has wanted me to test.  But nope, I had a phone interview and the next thing I know I am being offered a position.  RED FLAG? ...

Anyone Have RECENT Experience With TTD (The Transcription Doctors)?
Jan 13, 2011

I've searched the archives and come across ALOT of bad reviews on them (and a few positive ones here and there) but most of them are over a year old. I'd really like to get some views from MTs that currently or very recently worked for them. I know many companies have changed hands in the last year so things may be completely different now compared to 1+ years ago.  Or maybe not. That's what I want to find out. I already know what thier payscale is, but I would like to know ...

Acute Care Transcription - Does Anyone Have Experience?
Jan 17, 2012

I have been transcribing for 30 years mostly orthopedics. I want very much to do acute care transcription. Does anyone think I have a chance to get into it? I feel as though I am at a dead end if I don't do something different to further my career. I feel very qualified to do it. I took a good course from AHDI with cardiology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, and surgeries through Oak Horisons. This was a very well-rounded course and covered everything involved. Thought maybe someone m ...
