Gross - Meh

Posted: Mar 20, 2014

I just had a speaker burp and didn't say "Excuse me." The things we put up with as an MT.

Yes, very rude, but the fast and sloppy talkers - bother me even more. ugh

Americans are just as bad as ESL dictators, but the accents makes it extra difficult. I seem to be getting all the horrible dictators lately.. wondering where the decent ones have gone? If they all just slowed down.. it's ridiculous how fast most of them talk! They must know that they are not understandable.

Stumbling Blocks - meh

I just had a dictator who must have stumbled about 20 times literally, correcting himself or sometimes not correcting himself but just letting the MT figure it out in terms of how what he said should be interpreted. Yes, too-quick talkers are among the worst dictators because there's no way you can understand them and are unintelligible even if you slow the dictation because they don't enunciate in the first place. I would say that half of the difficult dictators are ESL and half are American who don't have an accent but just are poor at speaking intelligibly.

I have one dictator who rarely makes it through - a sentence without stumbling

[ In Reply To ..]
..and is usually going back and starting the sentence over, slightly different though, so with the VR system, you get 2 different versions of the same sentence to edit, one of which needs to be taken out. :p

How long do you usually try to understand what they're saying, or just give up and leave the garbled nonsensical mess the VR spits out as is? If they aren't making sense, I don't like to guess and ponder what they're trying to say and often just leave as is. Not happy to do that, but I need to make at least minimum wage.

Thanks for posting.. helps to know I'm not alone. :)

Also bad when they make a sudden very loud - cough right into the phone

[ In Reply To ..]
that can burst the eardrum. :p

Just plain Rude - me

I had a doctor who regularly took his recorder into the bathroom with him.....need I say more?

Rebellion? (sm) - Rose

[ In Reply To ..]
There seem to be so many more who refuse to form actual words and just blabber, especially through the PE and ROS. I have suspected that they may be rebelling against VR, deliberately creating a voice wreck to spite the Admins who are forcing it on them. Any thoughts?

When I had my own IC accounts, all my doctors were very polite and respectful, always apologizing for errors. One would even warn me when he was changing batteries in his recorder so it wouldn't blast out my TMs. Now the only polite dictators seem to be East Indian.

One doctor in the department actually dictated - a dirty joke on the tape..

[ In Reply To ..]
That was many years ago when there were cassettes. It was actually kind of funny. :) Burping is not funny, though. :p

Say what? - Meh

It sounds juvenile, but maybe he wanted to tickle a funny bone.

dirty doctor - nottelling

[ In Reply To ..]
I've had one doctor for years have his extramarital relationships while dictating and state his sexual preferences to me while dictating. I should have kept the recordings b/c I could own that hospital now...

Why are the dictating stations in the hospitals - where all the traffic is

I had a report yesterday and the background noise was so loud you could not make out what the dictator was trying to say and on VR which means it does not pick up things correctly and just puts in junk. If not the people being loud, sounded as in the operating room with the equipment being broken down. I blanked quite a bit, don't care, don't guess and could not make out. Let them figure it out. No one says anything to the dictators anymore and I will not run the risk of things being wrongly put in just from guessing. Can't hear, can't transcribe or edit.

How Can Gross Lph Be More Than Net Lph?
Feb 17, 2011

Got my ASR production report. My net lph is 100 lines greater than my gross lph. The definition of gross is the the total before any deductions. The definition of net is gross minus deductions. Good grief. This is my report from last week. Last week I really put my nose to the grind stone and gave it full effort in the hopes that it would be reflected in my count. Nada, nothing. My count was exactly the same as when I don't have my nose to the grind stone. They want your hand o ...

4.5 Cpl For A Gross Line?
Aug 19, 2012

Considering taking a new job but wondering if I'd be getting screwed.  Owner is offering 4.5 cpl for a gross line, and they use the line count function in Word to count their lines.  On the sample test document they have their margins stretched about as far as they can go.  I make 8 cpl right now on a 65 character line, typing in Word, and by the formula I'm paid by now it looks like 4.5 cpl would be almost half of what I'm making now for the same document.  Ow ...

Gross, Disgusting And Abusive
Jun 16, 2011

Just typed a report that I can honestly say is probably the most disgusting dictation I have ever done in 30 years.  Dictator (ha ha - joke!) was chomping very loudly on chips, rustling bag and sucking and sloberring.  If I were talking to a person doing that I would walk away so fast she would choke on her own slobber.   Listening to it is abuse in my opinion. ...

Can You Recommend An Accurate Line Counting Program For Gross Lines?
Mar 10, 2010

I have been using MPCount for several years but recently upgraded to a new laptop & it will not work on it - incompatible. I tried out their new trial version of MPTools but it does not count my gross lines the same & I would be losing more $ than I would like with it. There is something programmed into the newer version that counts differently somehow. (That was even confirmed with the person who produced this program.) Are there any other line counting software programs out t ...

Gross Line Versus 65 Character Line
Aug 19, 2010

Anyone know if 5 cents per gross line is good or not? Better than 10 cents a 65 character line??   A company is offering this to me & says that at least 1/2 of every report is templated but you still get paid for it.  I make 10 cents a 65 character line with the company I work for at this time.  Please advise so I can make a decision to test or not with them.  ...
