is anybody else finding this new AP line count A LOT harder to attain? - curious

I am typing A LOT harder than before.

In short, yes. - anon

I'm working a lot harder as well. Maybe I'll stop hitting the space bar since they aren't paying us for spaces anymore. I'm looking elsewhere for employment (not MT).

Some days have been better than others. I've even gone over the requirement a couple of days, but those were with dictators that I'm really familiar with and have shortcuts, etc setup for in Instant Text.

It's harder because the new LPH quota is actually - higher than the old one

[ In Reply To ..]
even given the adjusted difference according to the new definition of a line. You can check it with any word document by looking at the difference between the number of lines in the document when spaces are counted and the number of lines in the document when spaces are not counted.

I have to assume management did the arithmetic, so this looks like an underhanded way to pay its MTs less money.

maybe - calculator

They could loosen it more when they see how many reach about only 165 LPH every pay period. Some reports, you have to use the space bar a lot for formatting.

I think 155 LPH would be a lot more manageable.

a lot harder here too - Tired fingers

How many lines do you strive for in a day? 1000 use to be my goal or about 5 billing hours. Sadly, I am no where near that now.

Billing hours? I thought AP had VA accounts and - everyone was paid an

[ In Reply To ..]
hourly wage as an employee.

hours - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
We are paid an hourly wage but only for "keyboard time." That's only for time spent typing. Anything else such as research, proofing reports, reading work-related e-mails and account specifics, etc. is done "off the clock."
so in essence you're actually taking, say, 10+ hours sm - wondering

to get in 8 hours of actual keyboard/work time? And getting paid only for the 8 hours?

how is this different - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
It seems MTs everywhere get paid by the keystroke/typing time.
Because hourly employees are supposed to be - paid for ALL time spent
[ In Reply To ..]
doing their job. That includes emails, research, training, etc.

If you worked somewhere as an hourly paid employee, like a cashier, for instance, wouldn't you expect to be paid for all your job related tasks in between ringing up customers? Tallying up receipts, counting your drawer, putting receipt paper in the register and so forth are all things apart from actually scanning merchandise and taking payment and giving change for which you would be paid. It seems like so many of us are used to working for free as ICs that we forget that we're supposed to be paid for EVERYTHING we do on the job when we're hourly employees.

They should have just said that your reported hours must equate xxx LPH (minimum). Most employees at MT companies have such a minimum. If you can't do it, you are let go.

But it sounds like a lot of ppl have trouble reaching AP's standard with counting only typing time, much less everything else.

That's because the minimum required LPH - is unreasonable
[ In Reply To ..]
especially given that many of these accounts probably consist mostly of doctors the quality of whose dictations are not fit for SR. If there is not at least a mix of good and bad dictations, there is no way an MT can maintain a minimum straight typing LPH of 198-211, which is approximately what the new standard of 165-175 LPH (not counting spaces) comes out to. The previous minimum was 190-200 LPH (counting spaces) so this is definitely an increase.

Curious--Has anyone left AP? - mt2long

[ In Reply To ..]
Just curious if anyone has left AP after all of this or planning on leaving. I don't know how much more I can put up with this. Also, did anyone really turn them into the DOL again as someone had suggested they were doing in a previous post?

I'm looking for something non-MT now. I saw the previous post about the DOL and the way it read, they had talked to their local DOL and the complaint was being forwarded to the Baltimore DOL.

Does Anyone Else Have To Work Harder And Harder Just To Make Lines?
Nov 07, 2009

Six months ago with the Q, I could easily have my 800 or so in 5-6 hours and generally typed over 1,000 a day.  Now, I'm finding I'm struggling to make my 800 at the end of shift, even though I'm doing all the same things, typing even faster, etc.  Is anyone else having this issue?  I have a huge WE dictionary and all the other little tips and tricks and it's never been an issue before.  Thanks in advance!   ...

VR Line Count - What Kind Of Line Production Should I Shoot For
Mar 24, 2011

I was just hired on with a company to do strictly VR. I am only going to be working part time so about 4 hours a day. I am wondering from those who do VR what kind of line production should I shoot for in 4 hours of work? What is the normal VR line count for part time? I have read that most who are working full time or 8 hours a day are doing more than 1,000, even 2,000 a day. The company I will be working for wants a minimum of 10,000 lines in a payperiod which the lady said even with part time ...

Character Count/line Count
Feb 23, 2011

Is this correct? I type 70,000 characters a day. I am paid by the 65 character line so I would divide 70,000 by 65 to get 1076, then multiple that by pay per line, say $.10 and get $107. If this is not correct then what is the formula? And what is the average number of lines per day? Thanks so much for the info. ...

I have been working for this company for about 18 month and so far so good. It was even bought out by a bigger company and everything stayed the same with no problems. They don't bother me, I do my work and everything is fine.
