My line count has tanked - Foz

Posted: Oct 21, 2009

I used to do 250-275 lph fairly easily. Lately, I am typing as fast and furious as ever and struggle to get above 200 lph. Not sure what is going on, but I'm pretty sure it ain't me.

Also, when did they change the dictating system over to 2 cans and a piece of string?  I CANNOT hear this CRAP.  Even the American guys are starting to sound wind-tunnelish

Agreed... - flabergasted

they absolutely are manipulating our line count in some fashion, just do not know how.

Previously, I could do about $18 an hour and now consistently I am at $13. Cannot get over that amount no matter how fast I go.

Also, keep track of transcription jobs as I had a few being logged as ASR jobs! Have had to report multiple jobs for the past month.

Me too! I've noticed on more than one occasion regular jobs - Kiki

being recorded as ASR. At first, I was thinking I didn't get credit for certain jobs. But then I happened to check the ASR and there they were! That's a sneaky trick!

I don't normally keep track of my jobs, takes too much extra time, but I think I may have to start. A couple of times I even went looking for a job where I had wrote the job # down because I wanted to check on a certain blank, only to not be able to locate that job AT ALL. Sending emails did nothing, just got ignored. I wonder if they are THAT greedy that they have to steal a job here, a job there, pay ASR rate for reg here and there....that would actually add up to quite a bit, snagging just a little from EVERYONE....I'm just wondering.......

Two cans and a string here also - Elecampane

At least once a day I send a report to QA with the notation that sound quality is very poor. First report of the day this morning I can barely make out. Had never noticed this happening this much until the last month or so.

Line count is also down but could just be me, I guess.

we were told to quit complaining - fed up also

[ In Reply To ..]
We had a conference call specifically designed to tell us MTs/MEs to quit leaving notes for the client regarding sound quality. Apparently our client is tired of hearing about the issues and MQ solution is to tell us to quit our whining and just type. Man, can it get any worse?

No more complaining - thornbird

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't complain via QA note. I just leave a marker, sometimes many, many markers, and if the QA people can't figure out what is being said, then the client gets sent a report full of blanks and it's nobody's fault except their own. If they want to complain about blanks in their reports then they can take their fist out of their mouth and learn to speak ENGLISH.

We used to get somewhat of a balance - sm

between good and bad dictators and audio, so it kind of evened out somewhat. I think the good stuff is going elsewhere & we're stuck with all the bad stuff. I could be wrong, but that's how it feels to me.

I think you hit the nail right on the head.... - Kiki

All the decent dictators on my accounts have somehow mysteriously vanished. Left with the slurring, stuttering, non-English speaking (American AND ESL) dictators.

One time this particularly HORRIBLE dictator said at the end of a report to please call me at XXXXX (gave his phone number) if there are any problems with this dictation. I KNOW you know how BAD I wanted to call that number!!! I actually seriously considered it for at least a minute. I would have said this:

Hi, yeah, I am the invisible person on the other end end of your phone in which you are dictating. Yes, I do have a problem with your dictation. If you want complete, accurate reports in a timely fashion, could you please stop eating/yawning/stuttering/mumbling/eating the microphone/shuffling papers and come prepared and ready to dictate in a clear voice. And could you PLEASE for the love of all that is good FIND a quiet place to dictate? Hmm? Could ya? You would really make my job much easier, and then I wouldn't have to curse the ground you stand on as I'm trying to decipher your dictation. Thank you.

Ashamed of line count - Hopeless

[ In Reply To ..]
If only I made 200 lph I would really feel better about being forced to type from 100% ESL (every now and then worse English dictators). I'm part time and manage to make the 4000 line requirement. BUT it is embarassing how long I have to type to get the required line count. I actually make less than minimum wage in my state. I'm looking for another job, but right now suffering through. Do you type from all ESL? If you do, I have to give you props.

MEDQUIST - queenb

It is time to jump that ship. MedQuist is notorious for cheating MTs on their line counts. They were in trouble a few years ago defrauding the government and had to pay a huge fine. Now all of you are helping them pay for it. Check out www.SoftScript.com if you want a REAL JOB!!!

Softscript is worse than MQ. - No thanks

Lines - Sick of Missing Lines

[ In Reply To ..]
A couple of things here - the more you do those ASR doctors, the more you will get used to their quirky accents and the better you will be. When I first started out doing MT some 20 years ago, there were doctors I HATED doing. After doing a handful of them for a few months, I started loving doing them because I knew what they were going to say and they were almost always consistent.

As far as your lines, well, I don't know if this is your case, but there are some of us questioning if our line counts are being cheated. I have downloaded two different versions of MT line count software and set both up as close to what MQ has as possible. So far, the least amount of lines I have been shorted is 20, and I've been shorted as many as 80 or so lines on longer reports. Never has that line count software said I had more lines than MQ or even anywhere near the same. It's always 20 or more lines less.

I used to average at least 1,000 to 1,200 lines a day. Some days I can't even make my 800 and I am seriously losing sleep over it. How are the rest of you who are being cheated out of your lines handling it? I mean, not getting paid what you should is bad enough, but then will come the verbal reprimand, the written warning and then the termination, all because they're ripping YOU off.

VR Line Count - What Kind Of Line Production Should I Shoot For
Mar 24, 2011

I was just hired on with a company to do strictly VR. I am only going to be working part time so about 4 hours a day. I am wondering from those who do VR what kind of line production should I shoot for in 4 hours of work? What is the normal VR line count for part time? I have read that most who are working full time or 8 hours a day are doing more than 1,000, even 2,000 a day. The company I will be working for wants a minimum of 10,000 lines in a payperiod which the lady said even with part time ...

Character Count/line Count
Feb 23, 2011

Is this correct? I type 70,000 characters a day. I am paid by the 65 character line so I would divide 70,000 by 65 to get 1076, then multiple that by pay per line, say $.10 and get $107. If this is not correct then what is the formula? And what is the average number of lines per day? Thanks so much for the info. ...

DTS Tanked Totally Today.. For Me At Least

I have been working for this company for about 18 month and so far so good. It was even bought out by a bigger company and everything stayed the same with no problems. They don't bother me, I do my work and everything is fine. About 6 months ago my line count started going way down and I really just chalked it up to not being able to concentrate as much because my baby started walking and basically making it impossible for me to work. Need Line Count Help
May 04, 2013

I have been told that I need to increase my LPH.  So last night I kept track of the lines of each document done by using MS Word.  But later when I compared it to Nuance's line tracker (ichart) it only listed half the lines that MS Word listed.  How can this be?  I realized that Word my count blank lines, but how can there possibly be that much difference?  I felt like I really kicked butt last night, but then to look at LPH with Nuance's ichart I felt cheated/ ...

Receiving Only A % Of Line Count??
