I was wondering how Southern Transcription was to work for. They seem like they are a smaller company and kind of gave me the impression that they have a good rapport with their MTs.

Their office is highly disorganized and it's hard to get anything accomplished with them, but all in all the pay is better and the schedules more flexible. They've lost several accounts in the past year or so due to being out of TAT and various other problems. I am surprised they are hiring to be honest; they've been a sinking ship for a while now.

It's a strange little company. I wouldn't work there again. Not that they'd have me, but if it's a reference question between companies about us (would you rehire this person) so be it between MTs about the companies.

Disorganized is an understatement, IT dept. can be a tadd nosey with your computer, and all you'll get from the owner are sermons from the Bible every day, sometimes twice. Now, apply all that to the business of transcription as an MT on the receiving end, and if the shoe fits great!

And if the company is thriving this way, more power to them. But, I am organized, I respect others' privacy, and God is in my heart, my life every day, not constantly in your face via e-mail. I expect the same from any MTSO in the workplace, and feel more business-like behavior is not exactly setting the bar too high for my world.

I see the negative posts on here about Southern Transcription but was wondering how long ago you worked for them. I guess I am just hoping things may have improved since then. Would someone explain to me how is that this company can legally pay us a lower rate for ASR compared to transcription? Since the advent of voice recognition and overseas outsourcing, transcription has ceased to be a profession. I will NEVER -- repeat, NEVER make the money I was making as a transcriptionist at a hospital 5 years ago, before we were replaced by VR and cheap outsourcing to India. It seems that everyone has negative things to say about how employers do not pay MTs what they're worth and how they offshore the easy stuff, but pile on the lousy ESL stuff on the transcriptionists in the States. Too bad there can't be a general strike of U.S. MTs - a day without transcription - just to show how we're needed. It seems to be the only thing employers would understand.
