Softscript - any experience - Looking

Posted: Aug 03, 2011

Does anyone have any experience working for SoftScript?  I see in their ad that they don't send work overseas, which is very important to me.   Are they a good company to work for?   Do they have steady work, on time pay, good line rates, and, most importantly, treat their MTs well?   I am considering applying with them and would like to get some honest feedback from anyone who has or is currently working for them.  I want to know the good and the bad!  I also want to know if they have plenty of work like their ad states they do!

They are not flexible with work schedules, but other than that I have always been treated well. Pay is never late and sometimes early. Their cpl is pretty much on par with the rest of the MTSOs. The only reason I have started to look elsewhere is that work is far from steady. I frequently run out of work, and this is throughout the year, though worse around the holidays. There is no VR at SS (yet), but even if a company has VR, at least it has some work even if not straight transcription. If it weren't for the lack of work I would be happy as a clam (albeit a clam who is used to not making a ton of money. Or clams!).

Work has been pretty slow for months. I have run out of work every night for the past couple of weeks.

They are not flexible at all on schedules. If you work part time you will receive only 10 hours of unpaid time off per year.

I am conflicted about SS. I like the fact they leave you alone to do your work but it has been really slow and they are pretty hard core about time-off. In addition, there are some extremely difficult high ESL accounts.

If you like straight typing, want full time and like ESL, it is great.

Totally agree - wish I knew

Really, that's SS in a nutshell. I do like the fact that they don't micromanage. I wish I knew what kind of company this was. It seems like they are sort of a back-up transcription company in that some days there is work from certain accounts, then there won't be work from those same accounts for a while, then work from them, etc. It's like they have a few primary accounts, but the rest of the accounts seem to be on an as-needed basis. Maybe that accounts for the variation in work.
Thanks for the info! - Thanks

Thanks for the info! I think I'll stay away from them unless I get extremely desperate. :)

I currently work for SS. I hardly ever run out of work. They leave you alone. Communication is not great, but I get answers when needed. I am glad I decdied to apply and not listen to the boards. Everyone has different experiences. I have been there since December and can count on 1 hand the times I have been without work. Don't apply,if that is your wish, just means more work for the rest of us.

I have worked there for several years and the first year was nothing but work with OT constantly. This last year has been LEAN. People aren't lying.

I will say this, if you run out of work they will add accounts to your pool. I was up over 14 accounts at one point but I still ran out of work.

I wonder if SS is mainly a overflow company. Also, there are some seriously heavy ESL accounts. I don't have a problem with that but I know some people would prefer not to have a 60-70% ESL account (frankly I have one account that is 90% ESL).

It is certainly not the worst company out there. If you want full time, benefits are fair. Part-time is no benefits and only 10 hours of unpaid time off allowed per year (ridiculous).
SS and overflow - wish I knew

I have worked theie a couple of years and only noticed a real lack of work in the last 1 year. It's like they lost some main accounts and are now more dependent on overflow work. There used to be plenty of work with OT as well because they had acquired an account with a large backlog of reports. The ESL at SS is super-heavy, but in this day and age you pretty much expect it. Maybe the heavy ESL is why they don't have VR. I am pretty good at most ESL but have sent reports to QA where 2 editors have worked on it and there are still numerous blanks. If some software program can figure out "thrsgoehdpawhmidhisthatmycheck?shegbrgres," then more power to it!

SoftScript: My Not So Good Experience
Dec 05, 2010

So I was hired by SoftScript 2 wks ago and completed training which was not bad. Was put on 2 clinic accts and had work for 2 days and no work since! Emails from company saying volume is low, have patience, yada yada. THEN I see that they are posting ads on mtjobs.com for more MTs! Flip me out! Not enough work for the MTs they have yet continue to hire more! I believe they are hiring just to cover for the holidays, which really is Nasty and Underhanded. My emails asking them what is going o ...

SoftScript - Positive Experience So Far
Dec 20, 2010

With all the negative posts on here, I'd like to add a positive post.  I was recently hired by SoftScript, starting training this week, and so far I am really impressed.  I had read posts on here that caused me a great deal of concern over my decision, but so far so good.  They have been on top of their game as far as the recruitment process.  Everything I was told would happen did happen, and very quickly and professionally.  Everything setup and ready to go ...

Offered 8 Cpl At SoftScript For 20 Years Experience.
Jan 05, 2011

Has anyone said that was not enough and have them counter offer with more?  I don't plan on working for SS (I saw way too many complaints on the other board about them), but what about future offers which I suspect will not be any higher?  I saw on the resume board what I consider way too many willing to work for 7 cpl with plenty of experience.  Is it likely they will pay more when others are willing to work for so much less?  And many of these 7 cpl were IC.  Al ...

New Graduate - Experience In Transcription Is Experience
Nov 11, 2009

I am a new graduate and need to find a job! I am also new to this site. I got the site info from a friend that has been doing transcription work for many years. She has given me some leads, but as of now, nothing! It appears that most of these companies wnat 2 or more years experience. Does anyone know how I can start and get some experience? I suppose in anything and not just medical. Experience in transcription is experience, right? ...

Do You Think MT Experience Will Help In Getting An MR Job?
Feb 11, 2010

There is a hospital in my area that has 2 jobs I am interested in, one is a records analyst and the other is a records clerk.  I am definitely ready to start working outside of the home, but I fear my MT experience will not help me much in getting one of these jobs.  I am just wondering what you all think or if I should bother to apply.  I am thinking they are going to want people with hospital experience.  Thanks a bunch for any information!! ...

MD-IT..any Experience?
Apr 12, 2010

Hi.  I was recently hired as an employee with MD-IT.  I filled out all my paperwork, did my computer audit, background check, etc. and was supposed to call at 9:00 a.m. this morning to begin downloading their transcription platform.  Well, I called and got voicemail.  I left a message and have not heard back.  To me, if you have an appointment scheduled, you should be available for that appointment.  I'm sure they would expect nothing less from me.  I real ...

Experience.
Jun 08, 2010

I have been noticing that the experience level required to even get looked at for an MT job has went up. The 2 year experience mark has now went to 3 in most postings, and alot more postings are stating they want a minimum of 5 years. It is an up hill battle in an already hard market but with these kind of requirements I supose the seasoned MT's can rest a little easier and the newbies I guess can look for another line of work. I have already switched my gears and will finish my MA deg ...

Too MUCH Experience?
Jul 23, 2010

I am trying to figure why I never get a call-back on job applications anymore.  For instance I applied at one company who was advertising a week or so ago, I'm sure I did perfectly or almost so on the test, never heard from them, and yet now they are advertising again.   My range is not great, mostly ER and clinic, so maybe this is the issue but I have applied for these positions recently to no avail. I have 16 years experience and I wonder if they think I will want too much ...

How To Get Experience W/o Job & Job W/o Experience?
Sep 18, 2010

it's the old question - how to get acute care experience that everyone wants - when none of the local hospitals are hiring for MT (I've checked).  I could try "cold calling" doctor's offices and see who does their transcription (unless they have some kind of digital chart system - fill in the appropriate boxes on their laptops - I think our family doc uses that system). I actually had "formal" hospital acute care training 11 years ago - so seems like a lifetime ago.  Th ...

My Experience With TTS
May 26, 2011

I just wanted to let anyone who may be interested know what my experience with TTS has been recently.  A job for a Delta Team member was advertised, for which I applied with my resume and cover letter.  It's worth noting here that I meet every qualification in the ad.  The job sounded like it was difficult, but I applied as I wanted a salaried position.  I received an e-mail from *******, the same one who was sent packing from another MTSO last year.  The e-mail gave all sorts of inf ...

No Experience No Job - No Job No Experience

I'm sure everyone is familiar with the situation of not having enough experience to get a job but not being able to get the experience if you don't get a job.  I have skiills and talent out the wazoo - I've passed numerous transcription tests - and I nearly always get a quick response to my application and resume submission.  HOWEVER, because i've never worked in a hospital and my 10 years of experience was more than three years ago - AND because I that experience w ...

How Can I Get More Experience?
Jul 14, 2012

I was working 40 hours per week as an oncology transcriber until the company I worked for was outsourced by Nuance.  Now, I am trying to find another transcribing job that does not require 2+ years of experience.  I only have about 15 months of experience in oncology.  Does anyone have any idea of how I can get more experience so that I can eventually apply for jobs with 2+ years of experience?  I am willing to work cheap just so that I can get that two years in. ...

New MT....How To Get Experience?
Sep 17, 2012

Hello, I got a certificate from Allied schools that I completed their course for MT. I was under impression that the certificate was so that I could say I was a certified MT. I was wrong I guess. Makes sense.... I am a licensed vet tech and know that I had to take the vet tech boards before getting my certification/license for that. So my question is HOW do I do this? I want my certification and I want to be able to get some experience so I can say I have experience. HELP PLEASE. ...

EMR - My Personal Experience
Nov 02, 2009

I have been an IC for past 13 years with all local physician office accounts. As of July this year, I now have only one left due to the use of the EMR. While those of you are saying that EMR will not phase out transcriptionist..well that may be so, but in my experience it has already phased me out.
