Precision Transcription MTs? - Looking to Change

They are hiring IC at 0.6/0.3 for transcription/ASR. Anyone who can give me info on reliability of pay, etc, I would appreciate it.

I am really surprised at the line rates. When I was there for a brief period of time last year, it was 7 cpl for straight typing and 3 for VR. She pretty much will "leave you alone," to get your work done. They utilize Yahoo IM and when you start a job, you have to list the job #, dictator etc., into the status bar of your Yahoo Messenger. I left, because there is at least ONE "prima donna" on the account, who will not do VR. If there are no jobs to be done as far as straight typing is concerned, she will sign off. It is not a first in, first out type of thing -- the accounts are "assigned job numbers" at the beginning of the report and are in separate ques between VR and straight. It is to be expected that if there is no work left as far as straight typing is concerned, then you need to go in and work on the VR side, but again, there are a few people who refuse to do it and the MTSO does not do anything about it. That's why I left. Otherwise, good company overall. They pay on time and by DD.

She will hire people as well with little to no MT experience. The dictators are not that bad, but there are a few who can be "pains," because they are ESL. When I was there, they were just starting out with the VR side, so hopefully, that part should have been improved. Also, she does not have a requirement of "so many lines per hour," when it comes to VR.

I have experience and I was recently hired by TTS at 8/4 which is not great but better than what you got offered. They are still hiring from my understanding

Would someone explain to me how is that this company can legally pay us a lower rate for ASR compared to transcription? Since the advent of voice recognition and overseas outsourcing, transcription has ceased to be a profession. I will NEVER -- repeat, NEVER make the money I was making as a transcriptionist at a hospital 5 years ago, before we were replaced by VR and cheap outsourcing to India. It seems that everyone has negative things to say about how employers do not pay MTs what they're worth and how they offshore the easy stuff, but pile on the lousy ESL stuff on the transcriptionists in the States.
