Be careful of responding to the post by Mike Witkowski - a few years back he pulled this same type of thing with needing transcriptionists "right away" - the whole process was very shady and then he tells you that you don't meet his "requirements" after you transcribe a test.....just a head's up.

Warning someone away from a job lead because you didn't get the job is sort of shady IMO.

Almost all companies test applicants to make sure they have the skills that are needed to work for them. Obviously they won't hire someone who didn't test well enough. What makes that shady? It's common practice. SMH

Not everyone failing one of these tests is considered unemployable as an MT either. I trained many just off the street when MTs were hard to find. We just trained by listening and the medical dictionary. Don't insult someone who knows the job but is not a doctor. Just beware is all she is saying. Thanks for the warning. Doesn't mean you should not apply if you feel like you want to...go for it. Just be warned so that you do not feel more hopeless, helpless, and worthless if you get denied. Ignorance is bliss.

The tests can be pretty shady. - Especially the live-file ones.

How about telling us how much our expertise is WORTH to YOU.

They always want to underpay us but want the best.

I hate when they do that, too. If they have the account, the - line rate is already set. Why ask?

Plus - whenever I answer that, even 8 cpl, which is not exactly asking too much, I feel like that blew it for me. (you usually know on your own if you did well on a test or had trouble)

Doesn't make sense. They can only pay a percentage of what they are getting in the end anyway.

Hate to be unsure when maybe, just maybe, there is hope still left for MTing. But...yes, when asked what is our best rate per line...and you can send your resume if you like...and how many lines can you give.

Do not know anything about the new account nor even if it is VR, ESL, and on what program. Do not even know what Michigan's minimum wage is. Just fishy. Hope not, but just have to not be disappointed...again.

Yes, that is exactly what happened. Aced the test - that was not the issue - it was the fact that testing was to be continued for whatever reason? I think you hit it on the head - it was backlog work and enough "testing" was given to multiple people to get the account caught up. Very sad. Anyway, to those who are doubting Thomas' go ahead and try it and see what happens. Was just trying to prevent unnecessary grief.

I cringe when I come to this board and see people bringing their "assumptions" here. How do you KNOW you aced the test? I placed an ad on here not long ago and tested people, and you would not believe the "crap" that was returned to me, starting with not even following simple instructions on how to format the document and turn the test back in. Some would type half of the test files and ask me to go over it before they continued with the rest of the files. Really?? We test to get a general idea of what you know and how you are going to go about handling what you don't. So many of them put in what they THOUGHT they heard. I would have rather them leave a blank, as thinking they would do this with the "real" work worried me. I'm sure in their minds, they "aced" the test, too. He was clear in stating what his needs were, his name, company, requirements, etc., but that STILL is not enough for some on here. Asking someone what they charge per line is not uncommon. If it is to get the best at the lowest rate, then that's his prerogative...BUT of course, you pay for what you get...

Someone warning everyone of the antics the services use here is pretty amazing and here you are with yourself because you think you know everything. What makes you think that your program was so user friendly also. We trained in-house and gave people time to learn, and one-on-one. If someone did not get it, we gave them more time and more training. Nobody was kicked to the curb. Even more nowadays to learn with the computers and many different programs and relearning. Now you not only have to know everything plus being a computer programmer, and be interchangeable for pennies. Have some compassion also because we here are being used and abused and you say you got crap back....well I have encountered a lot of crappy supervisors also.

There is also a well-known company who also asked applicants what their prior experience was and what accounts they worked on,then would call those accounts and tell them that the owner was going out of business and he was picking up the accounts. His testing consisted of 9 reports all over 2 minutes long and some 7 to 9 minutes. Don't think that there are not shady tricks going on. Any way the MTSOs can hide profits for themselves they will.

And his prerogative to ask...well then her prerogative to warn. MTSOs do not like communication.

I read here once that a gal saw her atty and he called that practice illegal "theft of service". I applied this morning and I would tell him outright that this is not going to work on us, otherwise I will do his 2nd "test" if I can register it, or something scary I invent, like encrypted disclaimer. If he runs like rabbit I would back off him and send this text to the Dept of Labor, for real. Just musing. We could scare his pants off doing this - and he deserves it.

He TOLD me I aced the test, that is how I know. My theory is each transcriptionist probably gets a different job or jobs - then gets told someone did it better....when in fact it is probably a different report. This guy has shown up a few times on the board in the last 1-2 years....

When I first log onto MT Stars and go to Job seeker's board the last thing it shows is an ad for a radiology MT from towards the beginning of November. Then if I go into forums and then job seeker's it shows the last job posting as 11/30/11. I was just curious if that is right and pickings are just that slim or if there might be a problem with the site. ...

Lots of ads for help BUT underneath the ads are dislikes. Does this mean TTS is a bad company and don't work for them. Kind of sad they keep posting jobs so I wonder if disgruntled ex-employees are disliking their ads and why they keep advertising for help. Any thoughts on TTS? ...

Just checked out the job seeker's board and came across someone willing to work for 5 cents per 65-character line and 7 cents if the audio is poor quality. I just cannot believe someone would ADVERTISE or SELL themselves to work for such a low rate of pay, which probably would not even equal to minimum wage!!!!!! If you want to get screwed do not advertise, just go to work for a few of the national MTSOs that do not have a good reputation on this board!!!!!& ...

I see that Transtech is hiring once again for oncology. I would like to know if this account has enough work and what the percentage rate of straight transcription versus VR would be. There's a posting by Blair's Transcription Services. First, I can't even find this "company" on the internet to verify it, and second, they're requiring the purchase of a C-phone. That was offering part-time acute care work for ICs. Almost immediately after I applied I received an email from them stating how interested they were in me and asked that I fill out their questionnaire. Anyone have any information about Metropolitan Psych Services? They have an ad on the Job Seeker’s Board. It says they are in New York. Goggling “Metropolitan Psych Services” comes up with nothing. Just like in these forums there are a few who dislike everything whether they like it or not. One job posted as "Easy OT and PT work" pays .08 for the GROSS line which is significantly higher than the character line. Are there people who don't know this? In other words you would be making the equivalent to .10 of .11 CPL on this job, yet 3 had to dislike it. What did you dislike about this?
