Mediscribes based in Louisville? Right ;) - Research Further

Posted: Feb 27, 2014

There may be one staff member in Louisville, but it's Indian owned.  Dig a little deeper. That's your first red flag.

Your second red flag is the knowledge that last summer, once the US labor passed QA for Mediscribes, they immediately switched to their own Indian labor immediately afterwards, admitting freely that US labor on the account had done nothing wrong, QA wise or productivity wise.

None of the 22 US laborers were given new accounts as none were available at the time and were left scrambling for employment with a two-day notice.

It was a sweat shop when I worked there. Constant IMs sm - Bad memories

[ In Reply To ..]
all day long, calling me when I wasn't working, always hounding me to do more, treated like an employee without the benefits. Yet when the work dried up (aka given to the Indian side of the company), too bad, so sad, nothing they can do. The whole thing is a sham. The owner has a house in Louisville and they use that to make people think they are an American company. Work is sent to and from Ahmedabad and the techs who assign the work are there. The pay was decent, but not sure it made up for the stress. It is a good place to be FROM.

On a positive note... - Research Further

I dunno if I'd go so far to say it was a sweatshop. The account manager was encouraging and the pay was decent comparatively; not a lot of funny stuff going on with the line counts.

Tech support and accounting were fairly friendly, responsive and helpful and there was steady work without much cherry-picking; in fact, I couldn't have asked for a better team of coworkers willing to help each other.

In fact, if the company was upfront from the start about it being a temp gig, many would still work for them, just to be working in the field still or again or perhaps to gain experience as a newby.

Shame, really

Guess I got disenchanted when they called me at 5 am and 1 am and anytime sm - Mileage varies, it seems

[ In Reply To ..]
they pleased. I had asked to work a split shift due to health issues with my legs swelling, to which they agreed, but then never respected it. The techs are all young and have no idea what it is like to try to sit in a chair all day when you are older and your legs are swelling, your hands, aching, etc. They are young and ambitious and willing to work 16 hour days, and you should be too. That was MY experience. And God help me when they called on the phone -- had to ask them to repeat themselves over and over again. The thing that irks me the most is the deceipt in advertising that the company is in KY.
Question for you - for all MTs, really - Research Further
[ In Reply To ..]
I guess I was lucky when it came to calls - sounds like maybe they took advantage of you being eager to please them. I think this is human nature sometimes with management. I am sorry that happened, though :(

Here's a question for you, maybe all MTs - if they told you they were Indian-owned and it was a temp gig, would you have worked for them anyway?

My honest answer is yes - as long as they're paying me decent wages with which I'll spend to stimulate the economy here in my own country, I'm good - even had they told me it was a temporary 6-month gig from the start.

I guess my point was/is, the deception is unnecessary - all of the deception in this business, these days, is unnecessary.

I understand management can't share everything or panic would ensue, even if they want to - it's like screaming "fire" in a crowded theatre. But the degree of dishonesty these days is becoming acceptable, the status quo - and we are becoming desensitized to it, and worse, starting to believe this is all we're worth.

Now, having said that - and no disrespect to any of the MTs involved in any lawsuits with larger companies demanding mandatory OT without pay - but otherwise, we know what we're getting into, with this gig.
You knew what you were going to make per line and that there'd be a learning curve in the beginning and that you'd have to burn that midnight oil to make any money, it's self-limiting.

Though there truly are those accounts that are so difficult that you can't even make minimum wage on them, if we're honest, there are also some days we took too long talking to Chatty Cathy neighbor at the mailbox or one of our children decided purple crayon was a better color for her room after school.

So I'll take that slightly lower rate of pay for the privilege to be able to do these things from home and still make your 24-hour TAT, I always do - BUT - don't tell me you're paying us less to compete with India - because though true somewhat, why did this Indian-owned company paid me more per line than a larger US-based outsourcing company did?

The problem is the sweatshop pay from the getgo - and if we accept it, knowing it's sweatshop pay, then the least MTSOs can do is not treat us like we work in a sweatshop - and by that I mean not in pay, but in attitude. For instance:

1. Not threaten to fire us if we ever make a single CC error, when no other business in the world disallows a single mistake.

2. Place us on a timer like Big Brother, when the whole appeal for home employment at lower pay is NOT having to do this(and we've already proven we can still meet TAT).

3. Demand 100% quality, again threatening immediate job loss if we don't, and then thinking that guilt-tripping us that we must not care about our jobs or "patient care" is a good motivator if we don't do so.

I think about my grandmother or daughter or fiance every time I do a report - doesn't mean I won't make a mistake - even doctors do.

And one more thing - it seems we are the only ones that ever have to be held accountable for errors - and if it's felt we aren't doing this enough, then perhaps supervisors could show us how, leading by example?

When I was in management, if my team failed, I felt I failed in training them and blamed myself. Though I have met a few still in these positions with a similar attitude, nowadays, it seems most are so afraid of account loss and that possibly falling back on them that they'd rather just find a way to get rid of the mistake-maker than rather than find the source of the problem.

Okay, rant over - longer than I meant it to be, but I haven't commented on here literally in years, so there's a few years' worth all at once :)

Temp gig? What does that mean? - luucy

Is this company only temporary? Where did you get this information? I was never told that.

This is an absolute fact. They use Americans to train the accounts. - then fire the Americans and ship it to India

I cannot believe this site lets them advertise here. They are an abomination. The worst example of what has happened to medical transcription and American outsourcing of jobs.

Mediscribes - Tem Gig>

I read where someone wrote this was temporary gig.  What is meant by that.  I was recently hired and they did not tell me that.  They did tell me about being Indian based and all the rest about a home in KY.  I really do not know if they have Indian MTs but I would assume so, as most of the staff I have been in contact with are Indian and have very limited English.  Are you saying that they train Americans to do their work and then send them packing and send the work to ...

Mediscribes Ad - Beware - Bad Company.
Feb 06, 2013

Just quit there. Seriously lacks organization. Their India "allocation" team throws bits and pieces at you, very low volume, but then hammers your IM to death. Example, a 12 minute report is assigned, I would just get started on it and within less than 10 minutes they want to know where it is. WTF?! If the 2 US managers are out of the office and the India team is in charge, it's a nightmare. Then, even if the US managers are there, it's slim pickins as far as volume goes and then they ...

Possibly About To Be Outsourced To Mediscribes
Aug 07, 2013

Management says they are considering 4 MTSOs, and that we will probably be offered jobs with whichever they choose. Mediscribes is one of the four, so we have lots of questions about Mediscribes: Has anyone else here been hired by Mediscribes because their hospital outsourced to them? Did they keep you on the same account? Did they bring you on at one rate of pay, then cut your pay later (like Nuance does)? If yes, how much later and to what rate of pay? And for any Mediscribe ...

Is Focus Infomatics Really US-based Now?
Jan 29, 2010

A former manager of mine from "brand X MTSO" (in reality, a very dear friend now) got thrown under the bus.  She knows how "QBay" does.  She is considering an MT or QA job for Focus Infomatics.  Focus claims to not offshore, and has offered my friend 8 cpl.  That sounds terribly lame wage wise for all that experience. When I couldn't drink the MQ Kool-Aid anymore, I was making a whopping 9 cpl.  Of course, try doing the math on that formula come payday.   Jus ...
