Houck Transcription - AIM program - mtnj

Posted: Apr 23, 2010

Wondering if anyone has heard of Houck Transcriptioning in PA?  They run an AIM Program which is a mentorship program to "help bridge the gap between school and experience".  Wondering if it's legit.  Thanks!

You might do a search. Much has been said about this program, none of it good. Be careful.

Doesn't sound legit to me. - Happy MT Robin

I'm reading their website now. You have to pay them to apply to the program then you only get paid once you reach 98% accuracy, which is determined solely by them.

I've also come across several other posts where people are owed a great deal of money and never got paid.

Don't do it. Never do a program like this that you have to pay for outside of a legitimate school and never work for a company that puts caveats on whether you get paid or not.

Thank you - mtnj

Thanks guys, I thought it seemed a bit too good to be true. Hard when you're just starting out, you don't trust any company. LOL.

this is an unpaid internship, after successful - aim

completion of the 12-week program, keeping for a certain time accuracy of 98%, you receive a certificate of completion. If yu need longer time to reach this goal, it gets extended for some weeks. That's it.
The best of the best, maybe 1%, get hired by them and get paid.
That's it.
The owner is o.k., but her staff NOT, especially the QAs!

I was a former QA and had a hard time collecting my money. I kept being told that I would get paid once she got paid. This is the same for another company out of Phoenix. I was pretty much at her mercy to pay as BBB would not touch it, police would not touch it, labor board would not touch it. They all said it was a civil matter. Good luck with that as you have to find a lawyer in your state that practices law in PA, where she is out of. It is a legit program and people did get hired on when I was there, but to work for free was not for me. I had to pretty much lose everything as my pay checks quit coming. My loss hopefully will save someone else from having to endure the same problem.

Another suggestion would be to threaten to file a letter with the Fraud Division of the Attorney General for the state in which she is licensed to do business. (And if she does not have a business license, then she is in a sugar load of trouble.) Tell her you will have her investigated for fraud. If she does not pay--do it!
SMALL CLAIMS COURT. Get your money - .
[ In Reply To ..]
You CAN go to small claims court, this is a superior court, look in your yellow pages under county/state/federal section. There is a time frame to file a claim, so check it out. You can go google.com enter small claims it will bring up instructions of how to proceed, can print out the (3) forms, fill in and here in California can mail them in, costs $39 filing fee, you mail in check, they mail back a court date. No attorney fees. You are in court with all your "proof" of whatever is owed. You need to keep emails, letters, contract, whatever etc 3 attempts have to show you made to them for request to be paid. If they are not in the same state ask the court clear how to handle, as they do need to be presented/served with court dates 10 days ahead. Presented with fact of court date/action, they may just skip this action and pay up. If they do not appear, you win. If you win and they do not pay, they can have lien put on any property they have, their checks can be garnished and bank account can be garnished. Yep true. It all sounds complicated, but in retrospect, it really was easy, I was just scared/anxious as never did this stuff before. I would not hesitate, it was simple (though this was not for wages for me) but still, you CAN do it all by yourself. They get away with it, as nobody takes action, SO THEY CAN

mtnj - the only safe thing to do is work in-house for a couple of years. - you will never regreat it.

Does anyone out there work for this company? Archival posts suggest she does not pay until she gets paid by the client - and her contract would support that. Any real time incidents of how often this happens? Need a job and have been offered a job there. Thanks. ...

I worked for her, and she says she didn't get paid on an account and doesn't know when she will get paid, so doesn't know when she can pay me.  Excuse me, I didn't work for that company she subcontracted from.  I worked for her.  She should pay me no matter if she got paid or not.  Then she can do what she has to do to collect her money.  I have other friends and know multiple people have quit there over her not paying in a timely manner.  When w ...

New Incentive Program.....
Mar 15, 2010

I like how they try to make this seem great.  It's probably no better or worse than we were before with the monthly incentives.  When I got that email that said "line rate change" I really thought it was another pay cut. I tried to figure how much the increase would be.  I figured that the raise would give me 7 cents more per hour or about 56 cents a day? That can't be correct, although considering who we are dealing with.....maybe it is?  How do you figure exactl ...
