Encompass CEO - crs

Posted: Oct 18, 2012

Does anyone know what happened to the CEO of Encompass after it got sold to Nuance? I wonder if she is happy with her decision and what has become of her company and employees.

Do you think someone who got $6M cares what became of her company and employees?

How do you know that amount? - sm

If that is true, no wonder it went down the way it did. I, for one, was shocked and my life has not been the same since.

Sounds exactly like MDI - NM

Do you mean T? Not as far as I know...
No .. the post I referred to said, "just like MDI," so I was sm - after the sell

referring to D @ MDI. I quit before she sold because the work was drying up, but I was told that D and her loyal underling C were still @ Transcend after the sellout.

No need to be so scarcastic with your response. I just wonder if these people havea conscience. You make it why people don't like to post a simple ponderance on here.

Quite honestly, if you were offered several million dollars, wouldn't you take it? sm - JMO

I don't think it has anything to do with someone's conscience. If i owned a company and someone offered me $$$$$, I'd sell in a heartbeat. It wouldn't mean I had no conscience or didn't care about those working for me. It is a business deal. I would say that most of us do not work simply for the joy of working.

Yeah, I'm sure you are right. She is probably kicked back, counting her millions, not thinking one little bit about how she contributed to the demise of the MT industry. I know in my world, the almight dollar is more important than anything else.
get over yourself, it was a business deal and a good one. - you would do the same. (Not Marter)

I'm gathering by your warm and fuzzy attitude, you have a lot of visitors who will be sitting on the floor...NOT!

Many businesses started long ago and the owners are near retirement and since Nuance has become The Provider and the big takeover...best to sell or merge...many have done this since the 70s. We all have experienced this. Feel bad for us all, but we have typed "don't cry over spilt milk" in many a psych reports, now we have to refer to it.
I saw this blame game, bashing, etc. after the sale of YOG. sm - JMO

People really need to get over things. It is a BUSINESS. It is not your family, your lover, your child ... it is a job. And I doubt one company selling brought on the demise of the MT industry, although that is quite dramatic, I give you credit for that.

No one hates the changes that have happened to the industry more than I do. I used to have a really good income and benefits and I felt like I was contributing something valuable and worthwhile, but those days are gone. Adapt and make things work is all a person can do.

And if the dollar doesn't matter to you, then why bother working at all? Just volunteer at the local food bank or some other charity of your choice. No doubt they would appreciate the help.
Over the top, don't you think?! - TETO

For a simple question of wondering where she is and if she is happy, this kind of got blow out of proportion, don't you think?!
Led to the demise? - beentheredonethat

MDI selling out led to the demise of the industry? Over-dramatic. I was working for MDI when they sold, I don't even think about it anymore; had 3 jobs since then. Wal-Mart pushed out mom and pop stores, Big Buy pushed out electronic stores--it's industry, capitalism. MTs are MTs because of a skill we possess and not a company whose loyalty we have until death due us part.
I was just responding to CRS ... really not an issue for me. sm - JMO

I have seen this kind of drama posted before and so that is why I posted. One time someone said when the owner sold YOG it ruined her life forever. People take things personally when it is just business.
Should be a law that our jobs are till death us do part though. - anon

We can't live without a job, so when are all of our congresssmen seeing to it that a loyal worker gets the same back. What is going on with Walmart has to stop also. Doesn't make it right because corporate America rules. Time we changed the rules if we can. Good for you that you have had 3 other jobs....things need to change and we now go where? Back to school it seems.
Capitalism run amok in the last 30 years. We - are now waking up NM

No blame game...just trying to continue a career in the USA - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
No 'blame game' just disappointment in a 'career' so we all thought. Now what? Not easy starting over at 60. Who knew? Easy for you to say to volunteer. We'd all love to do that if we did not have to worry about feeding our families. You went from understanding to clueless in one paragraph. Business...why does that equate to bad, cold, heartless and only profittable for the business? Listen, even hospitals that are supposed to CARE are NOT for PROFIT.
IMO, Hosp do everything possible to save a buck, over pt well - being. Not for profit? I beg to differ. nm

Differ you can, but look at the total picture. - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
In my state we have hospitals that are for profit and those that are NOT FOR PROFIT. Excuse me...there is a BIG difference. Yes, they HAVE to make money BUT OUR laws protect as they SHOULD. The NOT for profit hospitals cannot by law, supposedly, turn anyone away. The for profit hospitals transfer the patient to the NFP hospitals. The NFP hospitals HAVE to put profits back INTO the hospital. They would then at times even give us a meal for the employees in a small token for doing a good job. This WAS our law and I honor those hospitals. They USED to be a caring institution and put the patietn first...not the money...used to not be considered a business. Ask Florence Nightengale...that was what hospitals were supposed to be...not run by CEOs.
Too bad, so sad. Times change, never for the better it seems. - nm

You totally misunderstood my message about the volunteering. sm - JMO
[ In Reply To ..]
She was talking about the CEO selling out and worshipping the almighty dollar, as if money should mean nothing. My point only is that we all make decisions based on our own financial needs. It is not a lack of concern for others or some other "Snidely Whiplash" type of mentality. If I own a company and someone offers me a gazillion dollars for it, heck yes, I will take it. I am in my 50s and it would be nice to be financially well off and not have to worry if my next check will be enough to cover the mortgage, utilities, etc.

MT used to be a great profession. If you were fast and accurate and took pride in your work, you could make a lot of money AND you were respected as an integral part of the healthcare system. Nowadays, you have to work twice as hard to make half as much and wonder if there will even be a job for you 10 years from now. I had hoped to keep on working as long as I could, in my 70s and such, but now I wonder if that will even be an option.
Does not seem like an option and what do we all do...don't know. - anon

I did understand the message, but from what I have gone through myself, maybe I just don't see an answer and am really looking for one. I check this board as we are all in a sinking career and unfortunately you are in your 50s and now I am in my 60s. No hospital here has an inhouse department. I cannot volunteer, and yes, we thought we could work past retirement and still at least be comfortable. I cannot even make minimum wage.
I don't know either. I saw that some offices are hiring scribes now, sm - JMO

to follow the doctor and enter the patient history and other things into the computer for each patient, but when I checked in my area, there was one job advertised, paid $10/hour! Unbelievable. I cannot afford to go back to school and even if I could, by the time I finished I would be too old to hire. At least now I still have a couple of straight typing jobs and I can average between $24 and $27 and hour, but I'm sure that will not last.

Hope you find something. Maybe we should start buying lottery tickets.

Fiesa Quality Software? Any Companies Besides Encompass Using This Yet?
Nov 03, 2010

Something new that's being instituted since our recent acquisition by Nuance, so maybe Focus is using it already?  Looks like a way to get even pickier about QA, in my opinion, which our incentives are based upon.  I've been really happy about the way Encompass has done QA up until this time.  While the requirement is really high (99% minimum, 99.5% for incentive bonus), the way they add all the lines together first and then average out from there is totally logical, un ...
