Does Transcend offshore their work? - kitten

Posted: Jun 04, 2010

I was told by local hospital that they switched from MedQuist to Transcend and that they believed Transcend did not offshore. The woman in charge of Medical Records Dept. said they wanted to keep dictation done in the US by US transcriptionists. I told her I would find out for sure and call her back with what I know. I searched archives and found some posts stating Transcend offshores at night and on weekends. Can anyone working with Transcend let me know for sure whether or not they definitely do offshore? Thanks.

Do they EVER!! - Smackeroo

They are well known for offshoring and from what I hear (from a mgmt type person), they want to send even more.

Great! This is the way to expose those who offshore! - Thank you!

The best way to stop offshoring is to make sure the clients in the United States are aware that their work is being sent offshore. Most do not want that.

I am glad that you know somebody at the hospital! Thanks!

Yes, they definitely offshore on nights and weekends. My team lead confirmed this about two months ago. Also, this is the same company that wants us to do UNPAID HIPAA training. Talk about pinching pennies so the company can have their big building in Atlanta!

Yeah - mandatory HIPAA training, unpaid because self-paced. Keeps getting better. nm - 2Bad

Why should you be paid for HIPAA training? It's - something you should know and

bring to your job. You're lucky they actually offer it. Many other companies now will just fire you for HIPAA violations. At least this way you are able to see and learn how the new laws affect YOU.

Why would an employee not be paid for their time spent on mandatory HIPAA training? Team conference calls are paid for by Transcend, as they should be. You surely wouldn't want to see that change. Just because other companies are even worse does not make this Transcend policy a good one, IMO.
update - not mandatory nm - Manzanita

They certainly do, and during the night shift our work was slowly been dwindling down, especially over the last month or so, which told me and others that our work was being sent offshore.

It's pretty sad that if you have a lot of experience you're no longer needed. Time to find a new career it looks like.

Please get facts straight.. sm - ***

if you are going to 'report' this to a hospital or whatever.

Transcend does indeed offshore; that has never been a secret. However, please note that if an account specifies that the work is done by domestic MTs, that is written into the contract and Transcend does indeed keep domestic MTs on those accounts. There are multiple accounts like that at the company, so to ask if they offshore and someone answer YES is not the entire story.

True, the offshoring is no secret. - however

[ In Reply To ..]
as pointed out by the above poster, whether an account is offshored or not is ENTIRELY UP TO THE CLIENT. If a hospital requires that its work be kept in the US, then it is kept in the US. End of discussion. Some clients, however, are not as particular as others....

I doubt that they mention to ANY account unless specifically...sm - The REAL facts....

[ In Reply To ..]
asked by the account. How many accounts do you think actually check whether or not their work is going to be done here in the States? Their (the accounts, that is) MAIN bottom line is "How much is it going to cost to get our work done?" I do agree that there are *some* who are aware or need to be aware of US-only transcription, but not as many as you would like us MTs who read this board voraciously believe! When the MTSOs get to the point that they are honest and upfront about whether they offshore or not, this industry will being stepping forward. However, it is my contention that they have the attitude "the less they know, the better for everybody." This, in 2010, is ludicrous! It's not as if we have our heads in the sand anymore so just 'fess up and let US make the decision to work for you or not - and go by others' recommendations or complaints from this board, as well as any other source we can find. End of rant................

I don't buy it for a minute either. - sm

I know for a fact that the account I am on has specifically requested NO offshoring due to the quality of the work. However, I have also noticed that there have been times when we would have a TON of work at 8 or 9 at night and then when we get on in the morning, there is nothing, nada, zilch. How else could this be explained when there are only 3 full-time MTs that handle the workload overnight? Does the client (account) know the ID numbers of every single MT on the account? I highly doubt that. How would they know what work is being done where other than the quality. Yet, lately I have noticed our dictators spelling out simple words and emphasizing certain ways they like their dictation done. We, who have been on this account for years, already know this. They've never spelled out simple words or repeatedly given direction on things before. So obviously the work is going somewhere to someone not totally familiar with the account. Betcha bottom dollar the client doesn't know this.

During our orientation, a conference call with the employee advocate, one of the first things she stated was what percentage of work Transcend offshores and the plan to take it higher (from about 25% to 40% if memory serves). The advocate said it so matter-of-fact, as if what she was saying had no impact on our job stability and futures (and she's an MT who was acquired from another buyout - a company I had previoiusly worked for). We MTs (oh, MLSs) were speechless - those phone lines were dead silent. I, in fact, was horrified. It was another bucket of cold water in the face on the heels of being told we would take a cut in line rate. So far I have managed to lay low and dodge the Transcend bullets flying around - VR, low/no work, threats about production and status...but my eyes are always open to better opportunities.

Transcend offshoring - shipaddict

The account I am on at Transcend is STRICTLY US-based. It is part of the contract between that particular hospital system and Transcend. So while they DO offshore, they don't do it on every account.

Are you speaking of a group of northeastern hospitals that happens to be the location of an NBC drama this past season?? That account is NOT sent offshore.

Offshore Transcription Stories Wanted- Medical Malpractice Cases Related To Offshore Transcription M
Oct 15, 2009

A legal contact was inquiring about the connection of medical mistakes related to off-shored transcription mistakes.  I have told him to review these boards and hopefully he will benefit from the information here.  While he did not discuss the exact case, I think that he will be able to use the off-shore transcription issue to his client's benefit or at least highlight that the provider in question does not have as rigorous control on processing records as other pr ...

FYI...QA Is NOT Offshore
May 16, 2012

Someone is spreading LIES. QC and QA are both done onshore. I know because I work in QA. We audit both offshore and onshore MTs, not the other way around and our managers are onshore too. When Nuance bought Focus, they changed all that. This info is not a secret. Just ask HR. It seems the TLs need to be educated on this as well. ...

Offshore Any Positives For US Mt's?
Oct 17, 2009

I've never posted and this is only the second visit.  I'm someone who was seriously considering MTec but has switched to planning for Andrews School.  I broke my arm - it is closer to healing though, and I am back on track to enroll.  I laid to rest thoughts of worry I had about Speech Recognition and now need to do the same with offshoring.  Are there any trends which point in a positive direction for us mt's - any reason for them to think they would be p ...

Offshore - Revisited
Oct 28, 2009

Following is an older article but I feel it is worth circulating now. Most people have no idea who has access to their medical records. Though this article was written 6 years ago, it is an even more common practice today in 2009 for hospitals, clinics and other health care facilities to outsource their dictation/patient records to other countries  - thereby not only making it impossible for transcriptionists in the United States to continue to make a living working in the US as a transcri ...

OFFSHORE QUESTION
Dec 13, 2009

I work for a company that swears that they do not offshore, and never will.  I actually trusted them on this.  I guess I'm a true fool. Anyway, I just found out that the account that I work on is shared by more than just the one MTSO, and at least one of those DOES offshore to India.  Therefore, it doesn't really matter what my MTSO is doing, I am working on an account that is shared with India.  How did I discover this?  Because I work on EditScript, and the ...

Companies That Do Not Offshore
Feb 05, 2011

This may have been asked and answered here before, but I am searching for transcription companies that absolutely, positively do not offshore any transcription work.  Does anyone know of such a transcription company?  I'm tired of helping MTSOs send my work overseas after a few months of working on an account.  They first start asking for MT input on identifying which speakers need help to be better VR speakers, and then the next thing you know, they're sending ...

Offshore Coding
Mar 11, 2011

Interesting info I think.  I found out recently that the coding team being built in India has pretty stringent requirements.  First of all, they will need to have a bachelor's degree in a life science field and then must have a CCS AHIMA certification.  Most of our US based coders don't have bachelor's degrees!  Sounds like they are quite serious about being successful at invading into the US coding market.  ...

I'm an MT here in the U.S. I once received an email from someone from India (how they got my email, I don't know) inquiring about working for me. I told them in no uncertain terms that even if I did own my own MT business, that I would never, EVER, hire any offshore people. All business I had would stay here in this country. This offshoring to unqualified (IMO) "transcriptionists" has got to stop. I heard on the news the other night where some industries are starting to bring the jobs ...

Fiesa Offshore Only
Mar 04, 2015

I have noticed in all the Fiesa reports/scores that NOT ONE is from an onshore QA. Every report has been checked by offshore QAs. Has anyone had an English first language QA? Just seems frustrating to have a ESL check an ESL report by a doctor from yet another language transcribed by an American transcriptionist. I have also noticed that if you get 100% one week, guaranteed the next week you get bottom scores the next. Balances out to the .08 per line between the weeks. ...
