Anyone who does or has previously worked for Spheris.... - ?

I am wondering some things about them....like is their testing easy, hard, average, etc? What do they usually pay MTs with 3 years exp? Is the work a steady flow or mostly steady? If you work part time, do they generally have you work 8 hour days for a few days a week or do you work 4 hour days for 5 days? How many lines are you required to do a day for part time? How many for full time?

I have not heard the best about them as far as making money goes, but I need a JOB, and they have emailed me and are interested, so some money is better than NO money.

I have been there 8 years and the testing I did was just over the phone so I don't know how it is now. I do not know what they would pay someone 3 years experience, its based on the account you type on. The work flow is mostly steady except around the holidays is when I notice the least amount of work. Part-time I know people that do 4 hours 5 days a week, I don't know if they let you do 8 hours day part-time. I believe you have to work 20 hours minimum for part-time. They require 127.5 lines per hour at FT, would assume that for PT as well. Hope that helps some.

though different names, are in essence basically the same company. CBAY owns the majority stock in Medquist and also is the primary MTSO out of India. This is why Medquist now outsources over 50% of their work to India. I wouldn't be surprised if the buyout is approved, the same thing happens as well to the work from Spheris.

I am surprised they are hiring anybody right now, since they have filed bankruptcy. Yes, you make 8 cpl and 5.34 for voice recognition. I work part time 4 hours a day, and 20 hours a week. Minimum lines per hour are 128 per hour or so. That is what they told me.

Their testing was hard and I was surprised that they called me and offered me a job.

The account I am on has steady work, except at Thanksgiving, we did run out of work. Strangely, Christmas Eve and New Years Eve, I was swamped.

Same requirement for lines, part time or full time. they also supply the computer and all equipment and programs.

Except Cbay/Medquist or whoever buys the assets of Spheris will likely impose new rules, new pay structures, etc.

Based on my past corporate (ugh!) experience, it takes 1-2 years to fully roll out the changes. For anyone working at Spheris right now, I expect they won't see significant changes before late this year

Would would anyone apply to a company in such turmoil? In other words, every promise made today cannot have any long-lasting effect.

I am being set up for an interview, but they have not tested me. I have 3 years exp. Do they forego testing with experience?

Before anyone bombards me for thinking of working at Spheris, let me say there hasn't been any other offers, and I need a job. If they pay a reasonable amount I will work. I quit my previous company because of NONPAYMENT of my wages, so right now I am looking for someone who won't jerk me around on my pay.

I had a very long phone interview with the Spheris recruiter. She said "Well, do you want to take the tests?" There were 4. Well, no, since I didn't want to work weekends. Since there were no other job offers, I then took the test after the phone interview. So in my case, the phone interview was first.

They do not waive testing because of experience. I don't think they even hire people without experience.

With all this talk about Spheris going bankrupt, well, they do have lots of accounts, and depending on the account you are assigned to, there is lots of work.

There are different rates at Spheris, the 8 cents depends on what level accounts you work. If you are an acute care MT you MAY expect a higher line rate.

I worked for Spheris and then when I left the company, they owed me 250 dollars for my deposit on computer and would never pay. A couple months later, I get bankruptcy papers in the mail so they made 250 dollars on me besides every other complaint I have with them.
