lived in the area. His dad did, anyway. Kyle worked there as a lifeguard. He cared about his town and was dismayed to see how the riots and burning were ruining his town. They were getting so bad that the police and fire department did not come to help when called. Kyle was going to school to be an EMT or something like that and wanted to help people. Earlier, he and some friends of his had helped scrub graffiti from a school, I believe. That night, he decided to go to the riot area and help defend one of the car dealer's business from the looting and burning. He was actually asked to do this. So, he went, armed with his first aid stuff and yes, also his gun, as he knew being there would be dangerous. He WAS a nice guy with benign intentions. However, the soon found that many of the "protesters" in the riots were crazed, evil people. Each of the three people he wound up shooting in self-defense were found to be criminals with priors.
