I don't recall the sound being particularly bad at that time (was months ago, though), but I hated everything about it. Terrible dictators and way too many of them to learn them and loads of account specs. When I lost my primary to the cyber attack, my line counts plummeted on M.
I feel you're right - they are purposely setting MTs up for failure. TTS chewed me up and spit me out, but now I'm glad they did.
