Opinions, please, on medical scribe sm. - FlaMT

Posted: Mar 14th, 2018 - 1:00 pm

Lately, I am seeing a few ads in my area for medical scribe positions.  The job description wording in these ads basically sounds more like an administrative assistant/clerical helper than anything else, but with an oh-by-the way "medical terminology would be helpful as well" added at the end of the job description (and no mention of pay rate, but no surprise there).

I'm curious to ask my fellow MTs --- would any of you apply or take a job as a medical scribe?

I personally am not so keen on following the doctor around and seeing patients and documenting visits as they occur (I'm more a behind the scenes type, hence transcriptionist), but I would like to know what others think in general about medical scribe positions and if this is something of interest to any of you.  I'm only asking because it seems to be a slow-growing trend in my area of late.  It seems to me to be another way to replace the medical transcriptionist and lower the pay rate, but would like others to chime in - thanks!
