45 cents per audio minute not decent pay - Flora

If you are doing medical transcription, you have left out all the things we do that we don't get paid for. If all we did was sit and transcribe, that's one thing, but what about looking up doctor name spelling, addresses, verifying local company names, fax numbers, researching previous reports, researching specs for different companies when you do several, emails to QA or management, reading emails, reviewing QA, sending statements, line counts, researching new drug spellings, doses, checking/researching patient demographics, etc., etc.

If you transcribe meetings or groups of people, you know they won't tell you who they are when they speak, so think about all the extra work that is trying to keep track of who is saying what. Also there are usually quality issues when dealing with multiple voices as you can't control the equipment they use, which may be just one cheap tape recorder.

So, you can't assume all you will do is transcribe and figure your pay that way. You have to actually do the work and figure your hourly rate. If I used your method of calculations and I type 100 WPM, divided by 10 = lines per minute x 60 = lines per hour (600) x 9 CPL = an hourly rate of $54.00, which is way off because you do more than transcribe and are paid for production, not time spent.
