No in-house jobs now .... - wishful thinking Posted: Jul 21st, 2017 - 6:30 pm In Reply to: 2nd and 3rd shifts only - frustrated
This industry is flooded with experienced MTs right now. Due to technology and offshoring and the two major companies buying most of the smaller transcription companies, there's very little opportunity left.
This is a dying profession. Yes, you may get a job but as a newbie you will more than likely have to take 2nd/3rd shifts to get started. After you do that for a year you'll have more opportunity.
You have to work yourself up in this job too. I have no idea how people get started in this industry now, or why they'd want to. The pay is equitable to pay from 20 years ago line-rate wise, and the reports are one-quarter or less the size they were then, so most MTs are making less money than 20 years ago.
Whenever they find a technical application to make transcribing/editing easier, they find a way to cut the pay too.
