Maybe all of the hospitals should start seriously looking into taking your transcription departments back. Maybe you have been penny-wise and dollar foolish. Look at how much money this fiasco has cost you. Consider returning transcription to the hospital where it belongs, keep your medical records entirely off line, use a paper chart, and you know everything will be safe and nothing will be lost. You can always import lab results, reports, etc., into the EMR but keep everything under your control. This WILL happen again and next time it may happen to Keystrokes or any other service out there. The time has come to take the protection of medical reports a lot more seriously, now that you know just how bad things can get.
