No you do not need to have a landline for DSL/cable internet. The phone/cable company of course, tries to give you the "what if there's an emergency" hype. Most of my neighbors in my apartment complex have cell phones. Now when I call the phone company for something, i.e., repair or to see why my internet isn't working, I just give them my account number.
I am just trying to pass along some helpful information because being in this profession, we are trying to stretch every penny we can.
