not really a vent...more of an observation - OldMT

I am now 72...I have been doing medical transcription since I was 26...so 46 years on the job!...I worked many, many years in-house...and when I left (to become home based)..I was making $30 an hour with benefits that increased with seniority...then outsourcing kicked in, and I kept working for companies that continued to get swallowed up by the biggies..and with each "swallow" the benefits and pay went down...  I now work as an IC for 4 cpl, so at 200 lph I am making 8.00 an hour...for almost 50 years of experience!   The only saving grace for me in this picture is that I am basically retired, so my check is just for buying garden plants or maybe a Dairy Queen treat!...If I were starting out, working full time, I would be making 1000 to 1500 a month!...oh, and my rent right now is 950 a month...so I would have a whole 50 bucks to play with for a month!.. I agree with many, many posters who say this profession has disappeared...
