I FINALLY found two that work best for me, switching them when the ear aching starts: The old classic Lanier or Dictaphone (can't remember which) earbuds that cost about $25 and Koss over-ear headphone that cost about $20. I have tried $50 to $100 Bose, Skull Candy, and Wordslinger (this one highly recommended by my MTSO) and they all seemed too muffled no matter how much I fiddled with the computer playback settings.
