usually medical assistants that generally know jack crap about transcription and make around $8-9/hour if they're lucky. Hospitals and clinics are wanting to hire them or medical students/nursing students to get cheap labor and don't care that the quality is horrible. How do I know? My OB/GYN group that is owned by a hospital and the scribe made tons of errors - and I am a healthy person - and my son was in the hospital recently and when we got the ER reports where they used scribes it was horrendous. I consider them to be more dangerous than India transcription but you know, CFOs are concerned about squeezing a penny and don't care.
