Vent - When my line count drops - TiredMMMT

Posted: Oct 14th, 2016 - 12:35 pm

The thing about MModal is that when my line count drops, it is discouraging and it makes it so hard to stay focused.

So you spend a lot of time on a report by a dictator with an accent who is using technical terms that you have to Google and you can't even find them when you Google, and he is leaving out all his a's, and's, and the's so you are wasting time just trying to figure out where one sentence ends and the next begins, he has a right/left discrepancy, and then he wants 6 cc's who of course aren't on the drop-down list.  You upload and your line count has dropped from 250 to 106.  So, unlike in the past, when your pay was high enough to offset an occasional report like this, you have now lost money.  You are also now in danger of getting in trouble for your line count being too low!  And you know from experience that it can be next to impossible to bring the line count back up when it drops like this, and then your next report is even worse.

So then your blood pressure is up, so you get up and start a load of laundry and tell yourself to take a few deep breaths, and remind yourself that your inactive time is going to be really bad if you don't sit back down.  And you try not to feel irritated that you, a professional for 2 decades, should have to worry about inactive time in the first place.  And you tell yourself at least you did as close to a perfect job as was humanly possible for both of those patients, something you have always done and something that used to pay well too.

And then you sit back down and try to drum up some motivation to get your line count going again, and you secretly feel angry because why should you be in trouble for having to take extra time to make a report work?!  And why should you be having to deal with high blood pressure as yet another hour goes by and you are having more bad luck and getting all the crazy dictators and it's just one of those days??

Why is no one saying:  Great job on those tough dictations!   We know you can't control which dictation shows up in your que, so good job still doing great work on a run of lousy ones!

And paying well enough that doing a great job on those tough dictations is not going to reflect badly on your next check?  And handled fairly enough that it's not going to reflect badly on you on some audit sheet somewhere?
