This is just one more thing that makes our job crazy making. "Log out if you need to take a break," but "Don't log out or you will be out of schedule compliance." "If you log out to take a quick break, you will need to make up the time," but "If you make up the time, you will be outside of schedule compliance." Not to mention, you've got to find a convenient time to make it up, which isn't always easy. Sometimes you have to decide to just take the break you need and the heck with it. And that's when you think, "How did a respected profession come to this?"

Similar to, "Make sure you don't have too much inactive time," but "Make sure you research and proof-read." If you research and proof-read without tapping arrow keys or otherwise trying to trick the system, you will have too much inactive time. And how did we come to a place where we have to "trick" the system in order to meet metrics to keep our jobs anyway? Who came up with metrics that do not actually take into account what needs to be done in order for us to do our jobs well?

All of which is crazy making.

I imagine it is no fun for the supervisors either, but to me, on days like today when I have been getting nothing but the worst of the worst dictators, it is really hard not to let it get to me.

But I choose to stay, and it is what it is. Maybe some higher up somewhere will figure it out, maybe not. But I just needed to vent some today.
