AAPC versus AHDI - any information?

I was a member of ADHI when they decided to offshore medical transcription and basically drive their certifications to worthless. CMT anyone? I left when they stole the Medquist lawsuit money intended for the medical transcriptionists due to Medquist underpaying their employees.

While I realize that a membership through AAPC is the only way to obtain a CPC I just am very hesitant to join another organization, pay dues, keep up my CEUs, etc. when I got burned by AHDI in the past. I am really debating not even joining AAPC and just joining AHIMA when I sit for my CCS.

Does anyone have any information on AAPC or AHIMA? Is it worthwhile to have memberships to both? Just one? Neither?
