I have used Breakaway for years. Yes they offer a 30-day free trial but after trial period expires, it does stay on your computer. After 30 minutes, you can tell a difference in the sound and you just go into the program and click on a "little yellow light," and your sound is boosted again.

VERY easy to use as well!
