As some posters have said, they have gotten monetary gain in addition to the personal achievement and higher status when getting a job, so you might want to check the other posts. Are you certain the cost of testing has gone up from the $200 range in the last few years to $400 to $500? Maybe you could check in case you blew it up higher? I think you might just be the goody-goody, not me. I am not berating everything with the bunch of you. Some of us have respect and are showing it. We are all in the same boat, so stop belly-aching and let's do something positive instead of all these ridiculous negative comments.
