I think some companies might pay a slight differential for the CMT/CHDS, but it's not nearly enough to offset the exorbitant cost of obtaining or maintaining the "credential."
The only reason I got a CMT in the first place was because my MTSO paid for my whole office to test; this was in the 1980s. I let it expire the next year. I used to have a fancy little pin...but I think I lost it.
I felt that CECs were ridiculous because our work every day is (or used to be) an education in terminology.
