Unfortunately, that IS the usual perception of those in - MT.

Dislike it all you want, but that IS the perception of MT. That is the image the MTs on this very site project. Read what people here post about. For years it has been homeschooling, child care, and who listens to radio and TV while working.

If it wasn't that way, the mommyjob sites and matchbook schools would not advertise with pictures of women typing with babies in their laps.

MTs here are always talking about working with the TV on! And in a post above, you have one who is horrified at the thought that anyone would watch TV, but admits to listening to a police scanner.

Apparently, everyone is missing recent studies showing that "multitasking" doesn't exist. It is just serial distraction. You would get more done if you paid attention to one thing.

The recent spate of repressive MTSO policies intended to keep you productive, accurate, and at your keyboards was necessitated by exactly those problems. That is also the reason many of you are always running out of work. It has always been so difficult to get consistent work out of at-home MTs and predict how much they will do that MTSOs compensate by hugely overhiring and tossing all the work out in feeding-frenzy pools.
