wbc's or WBCs in urine? - Cary

I type wbcs. WBC is white blood cell count.
lower case wbcs and rbcs are the cells in the urine.
....at least this is the way I think of it? I don't use the apostrophe, cuz it isn't possessive. I'm sort of rabid about that, but I don't know what AHDI says. Frankly, I don't really care what AHDI says most of the time.

I have been typing for 30 years for a variety of different places and no one has complained, but they may not have happened to have QA'd my urine wbcs or rbcs! lol (there's that apostrophe thing, but I like it cuz it's a contraction!)

Per BOS2, "Use 's to form the plural of lowercase abbreviations."

If this has changed in BOS3, would appreciate someone letting me know.

No, I guess I wasn't clear. Should wbc's be all little letters or all caps when talking about urinalysis results?

If the abbreviation is more than one letter/number you do NOT use an apostrophe "s" to make it plural, just add the "s". However, IF the lettered abbreviation is lowercase, add the apostrophe and "s." If it is a single number/letter (whether capitalized or lowercase), use an apostrophe plus "s."

Examples:

WBCs
wbc's
inverted T's
