Are you certain the patient actually said it or did they say f-ing just like the dictator dictated??
the only thing I know - is that the social worker

quoted the patient as saying, "f-ing" just like that. I spelled it out since I have nothing else to go by and no one to call. I'm not sure if the patient said f-ing or actually said f******. I don't know the social worker just did not want to actually say the word f******. CCM not answering phone, QC on vacation, no support otherwise. I'm not going to waste any more time on this. Making minimum wage as it is....
Thanks for the help anyway!
I would have typed what she said, if it was - f---ing, then that is what I would have typed. NM

We all know what the real word is. Next time I will just type "f-ing" and not worry about it. I can't believe I wasted so much time on this already. Ten years ago when I did strictly ED work, we typed out all swear words no matter what, so I guess that is why I felt the need to expand the F word.
Thank you all.
it was a great question though, started a good discussion - ddd

I would, like the poster above, type "F-ing" if that is what the doctor dictated. If he had said the whole word, I would have typed the whole word. It is not up to us to figure out what the patient actually said, just what the doctor quoted them as saying.
It totally depends on the client's preferences. - Check your account instructions

I just saw an instruction sheet that said if the dictator uses profanity, even if it's in quotes, the MT is to blank it out.
In other words, if they dictate "effing crazy" but they don't actually say "effing," the MT is NOT to type the profanity; rather, "f___ing crazy."
Other accounts might indeed want it spelled out, in all its ugly glory.
that's just it...no client preferences - this is MQ we are talking about

We are thrown onto an unfamiliar acct(s) every day with just a basic client profile (usually just formatting) and no one to get in contact for questions such as this. That is why I needed to ask here to get a general idea of what others would do.

and there is no "client preference" or instructions on how the client wants it, just type it as they dictate it. From the legal standpoint, you wrote exactly what the dictator said and legally you cover yourself. I've done many reports over 30+ years, rape victims, child molestations, domestic abuse/battery, psychiatric reports, and every disgusting/disturbing tidbit gets typed as dictated. Remember, these are not only medical reports, but legal documents as well that could be used in court proceedings at some point. At the end of the day, the initials on that report are yours and yours alone.
Would type exactly as dictated. We are not - mind readers.

The dictator is responsible for their dictation. We can't and shouldn't try to read minds. If the dictator said f-ing, then f-ing it is. The patient may not have said the whole word. We have to go by what the dictator gives us. That's just common sense, in my opinion.

If the patient said it, absolutely type it. That's the way I was trained. Especially in psychiatric reports.
But, the doc said f--ing, so she wrote out the word - instead of what the doc said. NM

Can anyone tell me what Chart Net is like to use as far as speech? I've been thinking of joining MM, but have no experience with Chart Net, and am a little concerned as they are only offering 4 cents a line on speech jobs! I've also heard that it counts lines at 70 or 75 characters instead of 65 and am wondering if this is correct too? Thanks. ...

I applied to Fast Chart, tested and then was offered a position. So, I read their contract and got to the fees section. I knew they charged a 7.50 fee for not meeting your line requirement, but then there was going to be another fee after you had been there for 90 days. This fee is calculated using some kind of formula 40.00 - (A/B)*40....A is number of lines you actually transcribed and B is the Line requirement and then there is another formula to calculate edited lines.  ...

I'm wondering how many MTs out there have access to patient charts. As of now, I do and it's very helpful in looking up vitals, lab values, and doctors' names that the dictator invariably mumbles. The company I work for will soon remove that access to MTs, and I'm wondering if this is a new HIPAA requirement or if we are moving to a platform that simply does not support it. They are saying that it is because of HIPAA, but I think it's ridiculous to take ...
Whenever I open the abbreviations, it seems to take a long time. Add an entry, close it, continue typing. Same thing every time I add a new entry, takes a while to open. It's going to take forever at this rate to build a list.
