I am CONTINUALLY getting flack about APGAR. If I put Apgar, I get it back corrected as APGAR. If I put APGAR, I get it back corrected as Apgar. If I put Apgar's, comes back Apgars. If I put Apgar's it comes back Apgars...

I have my Dorland's dictionary, and it has Apgar, A capitalized, pgar lower case, but in my abbreviation guide it's all caps (APGAR). Does anyone have anything different OR perhaps a solution?

I have always typed Apgar because it is named after a person, Virginia Apgar MD

APGAR: It stands for: Activity, Pulse, Grimace, Appearance and Respirations. Yes, it was named after a person, but it is an acronym also. An infant is scored, on each of the above, a possible of 2 points each, giving the APGAR score.

If your account follows BOS2, see pag3 71 talking about Apgar score (named afer Virginia Apgar, MD). Verbatim from BOS2, "Use initial capital only. Do not confuse with APGAR questionnaire for family assessment." I found APGAR questionnaire to stand for Adaptability, Partnership, Growth, Affection, and Resolve in my research from Stedman's Abbreviations, Acronyms & Symbols. The electronic version specifically notes to not confuse the acronym above with the Apgar score of newborn physical status. Therefore, I would use Apgar in pediatrics/OB and APGAR when referring to family assessment.

It's tricky and all about contextual clues.

Here's what Stedman's Abbv.'s, Acronym's etc. (4th ed.) has to say re: APGAR:

adaptability, partnership, growth, affection, and resolve (family screening, not Apgar score of newborn physical status)

American Pediatric Gross Assessment Record

appearance [color], pulse [heart rate], grimace [reflex irritability], activity [muscle tone] [mnemonic built on eponym Apgar for newborn screen, but not Apgar score]

And from Stedman's Medical Dictionary (28th ed.), Apgar score:

evaluation of a newborn infant's physical status by assigning numerical values (0–2) to each of five criteria: heart rate, respiratory effort, muscle tone, response stimulation, and skin color; a score of 8–10 indicates the best possible condition.

If it's clear to me that the latter is meant, and it's dictated as "Apgars", I make it "Apgar scores".

I have tested for M*Modal TWICE now in the last few months and have only gotten an 89% accuracy rating........I have been a med trans for a long, LONG time and don't understand how I could score so low. I guess I am screwed. In all my years I have never had this many "Major Errors". Guess I have just been stupid my whole life and didn't know it. What is the QA score requirement? I thought it was 99%. I had three audits today that scored 99.75% and was told that if I proofread the jobs better before I sent them I would catch these small mistakes (one per job). Are we supposed to get 100% now? Just curious. TIA! ...

I had 0.5 points deducted on a report for invalid blanks, no other errors, yet my score in FIESA was 98.08%. Does anyone know how these scores are calculated? Seems to me that 100-0.5=99.5. No matter how hard I try these days I cannot get my accuracy back to what it has been for years. I always maintained 99% or higher, mostly always right at 100% but now I cannot even get to 98% with everyone they keep marking me off for. It has gotten ridiculous. Did you get the hoops we have to jump through now to figure out your QA score. Can't just put in the pay date range and go by that because they are auditing reports outside the pay range, either before or after. Then you might manage to get 2 reports audited within the pay range, after you jump through hoops and figure it out yourself. So, what you think you are getting, when it shows up in webclock, it is way less than what you figured out in Fiesa. This is TOTAL BS ...
