Below is a response when asked to clarify compensation from a prospective employer. As an "old school" MT, I am unsure as to how to interpret this. I've always been paid by th hour. I need to make a decision. Thanks in advance -
.09 to .o93 cpl per line for traditional typing and editing lines being 1.5 lines = 1 traditional line. The range depends upon your quarterly quality score. So many years experience should be way up there in quality, huge benefit, right? The production requirement is 10,000 lines per pay period for editing accounts and 12,000 lines for traditional typing accounts.

If so, then clarify that for editing, a line would = 97.5 characters (65 x 1.5). I think the pay per line is decent, and better than some you see being offered. Are they going to pay you the same rate of 0.09-0.093 per line for editing? If this is full time, 12,000 lines per pay period is about average to even a little low if this is a 2-week period.
50,000 characters divided by 65 = 769 lines. If they were to pay you a VR rate of say 0.04 that would be $30.76. BUT...
50,000 characters divided by 97.5 (1.5 traditional lines) = 513 lines x 0.09 = 46.17.

I was just hired on with a company to do strictly VR. I am only going to be working part time so about 4 hours a day. Is this correct? I type 70,000 characters a day. I am paid by the 65 character line so I would divide 70,000 by 65 to get 1076, then multiple that by pay per line, say $.10 and get $107. I have been told that I need to increase my LPH. So last night I kept track of the lines of each document done by using MS Word. But later when I compared it to Nuance's line tracker (ichart) it only listed half the lines that MS Word listed. How can this be? Is it typical to only receive a percentage of your edited lines because "editing is faster and better" than straight transcription? I am new to VR, but this seems odd to me.
