question about platforms with satellite - boonies

There seem to be a lot of companies that say no dial-up or satellite. BUT I've heard from other MTs that use the same platform for another company on satellite and it's fine. Escription is one example. Can anyone tell me why that might be?

I have only satellite and am very limited on who I can work from. It's way beyond frustrating when I've been refused application on multiple positions on a certain platform 'because it doesn't work with satellite' and then hear from another MT here or elswhere that they work for another company with it on satellite.

From my understanding most do not want to use satellite in fear of security breach. I, however, do use satellite and work fine with it. It's often a personal choice and something worth contacting the employer about. In my case, once I assured them of all my security measures in place, they were not apprehensive at all and hired me.

And what security measures you have in place, etc.? I'm not really understanding how it's less secure than any other ISP. Thank you :)

I waan't really understanding how it was less secure either, but it was explained to me that their "opinion" was that logging on in a wireless fashion, via airwaves, created more risk of someone hacking your internet basically. I've never known it personally to happen... but... who knows. The security measures I have in place are antivirus, of course, Windows Defender, Firewall (another given), anti-spyware, and anti-adware. I already ran all of these and do so on a scheduled routine basis. They were happy with the provisions I have in place. It was just sort of a convince them I'm secure type of thing...

Maybe I'll try contacting different companies and asking why--I thought it was the platform.

The thing is, of course I do all that, and more people get hacked in apartments by their next-door neighbor because they have a wireless router, KWIM? I am in the middle of 29 acres and don't think anyone could hack into my wireless because they couldn't get close enough. .

Recently moved have Hughesnet and really struggling with download speed of voice files through vpn. We did upgrade one level to their 1 mbps speed but took over 8 minutes to download a 4 minute voice file. Kind of difficult to make any $ when half of the day is consumed waiting for downloads. Since I live in the mountains, I now have to use satellite internet and find that lots of companies will not go for this. Does anybody know which companies use satellite or are not too picky about this? Many companies specify no satellite. Is this uncompatible with their system or do they just prefer no satellite so say no satellite? I mean how do they really know or not if you have it? Are there any companies that you can use satellite instead of DSL? I am considering moving pretty far out that does not offer DSL. I REALLY love the jobs I have, but I remember when hired they said no satellite. Does anyone even know why this is? Even though I was told by my CCM she has sympathy for my plight I am required to download 6.1. Okay, I had to take my puter to parents to get the tutorial. Blondie, Opti-Script does allow satellite. They have a few openings on the Job Board right now and although it does not say that in their ads, when you go to their website it says satellite allowed but not preferred. Also Precyse allows satellite but I do not recommend that company. But maybe that's just me! Good luck! ...

I have heard that their transcription and editing platforms -- Escription will work with satellite internet. I know I am not the only one who could no longer work at Nuance due to only having satellite internet. I was working for awhile at my daughter's home, but that did not work out too well due to house overrun by all the kids and their friends. As well as your computer requirements? My desktop does not meet the requirements, though pretty sure my laptop does, BUT I use satellite which on the hiring forms they sent me they said won't work....however I know for a fact that it will work with the platform I will be on with their company (have done it with another company, no problems though the tech people had no clue and were shocked to hear it...but it works fine). I previously worked at Nuance on Editscript platform. I moved and had to get satelllite internet, and Nuance wasn't compatible anymore. So I am working at Transcend, who said the BeyondTXT platform is satellite compatible. I do not care much for BeyondTXT though. My line counts are much lower than what they were with Editscript.
