It really depends on the scenario you are in. Is this your own company and you do all of the transcription yourself? Or do you work for an MTSO and this is the account you work in?
We have a few accounts that use Allscripts. They said they would be going to pointing and clicking. Some tried, and failed. They all still dictate.
To answer your question though, it is possible to typed directly into the platform, even though I don't feel it was designed with the MT in mind at ALL. Or, if you work for an MTSO, they should have an interface with Allscripts, that drops the notes back into the patient chart using HL7 messaging.
This means it would be transparent to you, as you type on whatever platform you are on now, then it gets converted on the backend before going to Allscripts.
But all accounts are different. We do tons of Ortho and other high producing specialty providers, so they like money (seeing more patients daily) more than turning into a data entry personnel themselves.
Hope that helps!
MIke, Thanks! - Amanda

I think a common question that brings people to MT forums is "What transcription software should I get?"
I recently spent some time trying various software products and here are my experiences. They are just my impressions, but I thought it might help someone else wondering the same question.

Does anyone out there know of a reliable transcription software program that can be downloaded from the internet? Information gets thrown at you through training, and it doesn't all absorb right away, and you don't know what you're doing for a while. i hate that feeling of not being confident working with the software.
I've had jobs where all you had to do was look at a list, match it to the patient, and type. (or jobs where very little learning of sofware was involved.). I wish I had a job like that again. Added to the annoyance are the IM programs, punching webclocks, special e-mail p ...

During my first visit with a new doctor yesterday, I wondered why I was not presented with the usual "book of history" to fill out beforehand. As the nurse was asking questions, she was busy clicking on pull-down menus, etc. On her computer screen was software called SOAPware, and there, formatted into SOAP format and all, I saw my replacement.
Later, in the exam room, the FNP was using the software as well as we went along, after exam, labs, etc. I made a comment ...

They had an .exe application for it on their ftp server, but of course when I transferred it to my computer and tried to load it, it didn't work.
