Can anyone recommend a good tax program so I can do my own taxes as an IC? Need one that will figure profit/loss or schedule C I think it is and also home office deduction. It is getting too expensive to have taxes done and would like to start doing them myself but not sure how complicated it is. Any suggestions?

I use Turbo Tax Home & Business - absolutely love the program - very user friendly and covers all the bases. I've been using it now for the past 8 years. It has schedule C, home office deductions, etc. Basicaly, it asks you questions and maximizes your deductions. I buy the program from Sam's Club every year 'cause they are the cheapest place for Turbo Tax software ($80.00). Less than paying a tax person to do your taxes and that's why my husband and I decided to do it on our own. It seems pretty lengthy the very first time you do it (because of so many questions), but for me it gets easier and easier every year. Hope this helps. :)

I've used it for about 15 years. It will save your personal information the first time you use it and automatically fill that in on future returns. One way to save money on it is to file download the form to file for an extension before April 15th, then look for a used copy after that. Amazon stocks them for as little as $12 for previous years, not sure what they charge for 2013 after 4/15.

Yes, it does because it asks you about various sources of income including stocks, selling property, capital gains & losses, property taxes, etc. It's a very thorough program and maximizes your deductions by the questions it asks you and your responses (to see if something is deductible). I really love the program.

and you can itemize expenses. I'm not sure if you need something more for rentals. You might want to call them first.

I use www.freetaxusa.com. It's safe, quick, and doesn't make you pay to file electronically like TurboTax does. With TurboTax,I got to the very end and found out I had to pay $80 to file electronically. No fee at all with www.freetaxusa.com.

They had an .exe application for it on their ftp server, but of course when I transferred it to my computer and tried to load it, it didn't work. Hi. I've been using Express Scribe for years now and have never run into a situation where it couldn't play the files that I was working with. Recently I got a new job and now .ds2 files are going to be used more often and I just found out that Express Scribe doesn't play those. UGH!
