I just downloaded Instant Text - seems extremely complicated - - see message

I have been a transcriptionist for 15 years, all of which has been on Dictaphone EXText and now EXEditor. Why does my ESP in Dictaphone keep interfering? If I use an expansion and hit spacebar the ESP windows comes up, which makes no sense because ESP uses ctrl-ctrl to open?

And how on earth do you learn it all? How will it benefit me after using thousands of ESPs daily.

I felt the same as you when Instant Text was presented. Now I dont want to live without it. It just takes a while to learn it, as anything. When we went on Dictaphone in the beginning, we stopped using Instant Text and used only ESPs. Our production really dropped. At our last meeting, we all noted that for some reason, the system was bringing up the ESP without tapping control-control twice. Our supervisor was going to check it out with Dictaphone/Nuance. Do you constantly watch the box instead of watching your original typing screen? Do you hit the number and space to make it expand? I am not one to use abbreviations such as tpttpw for "The patient tolerated the procedure well." I would use pattol. I guess over the years I use the first syllable of words in my ESP, so I am not sure if it will help me? I am seriously overwhelmed and I have not made one expansion yet because I cant figure it out and my ESP keeps popping up.

Perhaps I could just work with it in plain old word first without the Dictaphone Editor?

To make the transition as smooth as possible you may want to import your esp file so you can use short forms you are used to. Open the Tools and Options menu and you will see the Importer. All you need to do is click on the Dictaphone button and select your esp file. Then open the imported glossary into the active glossary list. You can combine it with the Drugs glossary and other IT glossaries.

For other issues the best would be to call us or email support@textware.com

Also, whenever you are in a menu of Instant Text you can press F1 and you will get directly to the online help page with all the explanations.

I use autotext, but I would like to use the line counting software that comes wtih IT. Just wondered about what you all think is the best expander to use with VR. I used to use Shorthand up to a couple of years ago and now work with Instant Text. It seems to me that Shorthand is very very popular with the VR crowd. Does anyone use Instant Text successfully with VR? The version of IT I have (V Pro) does not have the recording functions and the ability to use shortcuts (like Alt+ and Control+) like Shorthand does. I am trying to use Instant Text with Emdat. I know it is supposed to work, but for some reason it isn't. The shortcuts don't expand, the "period" key doesn't work. The spacebar only makes a space if I hit it twice. Has this happened to anyone else. Any ideas? ...

I am looking for Instant Text users who may be able to get me headed in the right direction in regards to compilations. Does anyone use Instant Text with Probity's Integra platform? I just downloaded IT and am having a lot of difficulty using it. First, I had to set it to be on the right side of the screen because otherwise the time marker disappeared. Not a big deal though.
