Digital Voice Recorder and Transcriber? - NCMT

Posted: May 02, 2014

Good morning Fellows:

I need some advice.  I have to order a recorder to record minutes at the board meeting, but also want to order something that I could maybe plug the digital recorder into that will transcribe the recording, and then all I will have to do it edit.

One recorder I am looking at...the Olympus WS-822 4GB Digital Voice Recorder has a USB port that can be plugged into the PC; now just wondering what to order to transcribe the recording.....any thoughts?

All input will be greatly appreciated.

I do this all the time.

The Olympus seems very expensive for what you get. You're paying about $100, plus now you're trying to find something to transcribe it with.

My suggestion is to order a Sony ICD-PX333D, which is easy to operate and comes with everything (including Dragon) already for about $98.

Both the Sony ICD-PX333 (for $59) and the PX333D come with a cable so you can upload the file and software that you can use to transcribe it yourself. The software plays the file for you, etc. The D edition also has Dragon.

I've seen other people's recorders and didn't like most of them. I think the Sony is quite good. I also record an entire huge table of people with that one recorder, without using an external microphone. It picks up voices really well without dragging in a lot of ambient noise. I never have to worry about running out of battery or file space, either.

Thank you - very informative! - NCMT

Unfortunately, they do all their ordering with a specific store. So I had to order them separately, and it of course ended up costing more. This particular store didn't have the D-series either. If I had more time (they have a board meeting Tuesday) I would have definitely went this route, but its good to know for the future. I may even order one for myself personally! Thanks for the information!

Do you know how many installs come with the Dragon software - NCMT

I think I'm gonna return what we have and order this instead. Like a $200.00 difference! My boss can't be mad about that - lol. Thanks!

Transcriber
Mar 14, 2010

I have 1 client left who is still using tapes (will be retiring in a few years and not interested in going digital).  Anyway, my transcriber bit the dust.  I have always gotten my transcriber from OfficeMax, but now they do not carry them in store anymore and I will have to wait a week to 10 days if I ask them to order it.  Cannot afford to wait that long.  Anybody know where I can get another transcriber?  Thanks ...

MD Using Sony IC Recorder. How To Transcribe From It?
Aug 10, 2013

I'm picking up some work for a MD that uses a Sony PX312 IC recorder. I'll be doing the work in-house for him but have to figure out how to go about doing this. I have a USB foot pedal that I can plug into his PC but how do I get the audio to work with my foot pedal? I'm thinking that I'll probably have to load the IC files to the PC, then transfer them to an audio player (express scribe?) then play them from there. I've always done this work from home where the files w ...

Olympus Recorder From Doc , And I Am Old And Dumb.

I recently heard from a local MD asking me to do work, said he was going to buy a tape recorder.  Okay, I get my trusty old equipment out.  Now he calls and says he has bought an Olympus VN 702PC.  I googled it hoping to figure it out, called my more literate son who says I can just use it with forward and pause buttons OR I can connect it to my computer with a USB cord and, "Mom, all you do is open the folder you want and click........."  Of course, I haven't a clue. &n ...

I was wondering, is anybody making any money at all on voice?  I keep hearing just minimum or maybe a little more.  I call minimum wage 7.50 to 8.00 an hour.  My experience with it was at one point I was told that I hadn't made enough for minimum and they had to do make-up pay.  So how is everybody's experience with voice?  I run from it, and I just want to know if anybody really can make an money? ADVICE NEEDED RE: GOING DIGITAL
