Meditech/EMR - jwMT

I work for a small hospital and we have just recently started typing our H&P's into EMR. The problem with EMR is that it uses Word (not Microsoft Word) and we have no auto correct and no medical spell checker. We were told that we could not get either installed in the EMR. Does anyone know if this is true or not? Also, we were told that we could not cut and paste into the EMR, which is what we had been doing due to no auto correct or spell checker, because it is noncompliance with the HITECH act and therefore the hospital would not be reimbursed by Medicare. Does anyone know if this correct or not? I have not talked to any other facility that is using Meditech/EMR but I think our EMR is not set up properly. I cannot imagine any doctor working with the way our EMR is set up. The doctors do not want to use it so the transcriptiionists were having to pick/click the options for ROS and PE, etc., that the doctors dictate. Then the doctors did not like how that looked on their reports so now we are having to type in a small box area for the ROS/PE, etc. It is a mess. Are there different ways to set up the EMR?

hundreds of normal templates and shortcuts. Meditech has a dictionary which I can edit. I use a word expander which works just fine in Meditech.

I don't think our IT guys are that good. They seem to know less about Meditech than we do.

MEDITECH has its own shortcuts. MEDITECH is a PITA in my opinion :-), but I have used the shortcuts and "normals" in MEDITECH. It made my hair curl thinking about using that but I did use a few of the "normals" when I transcribed pathology especially. The other reports like cardiology, etc. were so extremely short that it really didn't matter. Sometimes the doctors would say "use my normal" whatever, and that was a file that we had in the MEDITECH database. You can build an entire list of shortcuts like Word or whatever, i.e. ros for Review of Systems BUT it in no way is as quick or nice as using MS Word.

EMR is different though. can't use M-Tech macros. - anon

shortcuts didn't work for EMR either unless typing in Word and pasting.

In EMR you can use the autotext in there, starting from scratch, though.

Yeah. . . . I've done that in the recent past with MEDITECH, typing directly into the record. I actually can't stand MEDITECH.

Meditech since I wrote my reply on the 23rd. It doesn't have a spell check. We are using a test version and it is FULL of glitches. It's bad enough it is slow and that our MTSO requires us to do some ridiculous forms that we have to leave Meditech, go into PACS, copy down values from a scanned in tech's handwritten form and then type them into a form on Meditech. Can take up to 1/2 to do one. This is a nightmare.

Anyone hate meditech as much as I do? It is impossible to type more than 50 reports unless you work more than 8 hours a day. They dont care if you work more than 8 hours a day, (cause there is tons of work) but don't put that on your time card. You have to work on your days off cause you don't make enough money unless you do. If you only get paid 1 dollar per report you can go on disability for the rest of your life and pretty much live on 900 a month anyway. meditech has so ...
