Is there micromanaging here? - MTnew2Nuance

Posted: Jun 30, 2012

I get my required lines in really fast.  then, I slow down the rest of the day b/c I am tired or need a break, need a snack, etc.  I already got my lines in.  Already asked once what my schedule is by QA.  Was this to micromanage, or am I being touchy...

Are we not allowed to take breaks once our lines are reached? What is the deal.  Or am I just being paranoid. Thanks in advance. Newbie here.

Weird. I never had QA ask about my schedule. - Then again...

my former employer was bought out by Nuance so maybe protocol is different. Since you are new here, maybe QA just needs to monitor your work for a time. I would ask the TL if this is normal practice, though.

I am off QA and got nothing on my FEISA, that is no corrections. I have been getting more than my line count. Then, out of the blue when I am eating supper, this person queries me about my schedule, when I clock in and out, etc. It make me creeped out. Then, I got so nervous about it, I did 3 times my required line count. Today I am scared to even go to the bathroom. Scared to mention to my TL b/c I do not want to be noticed as someone who stands out, but I tell you, I really felt kind of strange with so many questions... I have not yet made my required counts...

I meant to say I have not yet NOT made my required counts. - MTnewatNuance

I have made over goal every single day since day one. Sorry for the typo. Even writing this makes me nervous :(.

Never had a QC/QA ask about my schedule other than which days/hours I work for something like training purposes. Only your TL has any reason to be asking about your clock time as they are the only ones with access to it. If your QA is asking then they are just being nosey!
Thanks for that! - MTNuancenew

Thanks, that is what I thought, but I got scared, being new. I never have been reprimanded if I hit goal at my jobs, and with good quality. I did not know why this was happening. I feel like a kid on the playground again, new at school.
Thanks for helping me to not be so nervous, paranoid, and otherwise ridiculously worried about this.

I am also new and the way it was explained to me is that they expect you to use 1 hour of our allotted time per day towards things like taking breaks, looking things up etc BUT if when they do your time card and somehow they can tell when you were typing and when you weren't they will call you on it. Doesn't matter what your production is or was. If you like somewhere on your timesheet it shows how many hours on should be at least 80 hours and then there is another figure which should be over 70 showing that you are "being productive" This goes to supervisors who go to the team leaders who will then call you on it. I got one of those phone calls after my first real 2 weeks of typing because I was falling below.
So if they want us to be machines... - MTnewNuance

So did you say anything... Is everybody working all the time? I never knew of a job where you are expected to work like a machine. I get more than double my required line counts and I am part time. And at 4.1 cpl, which is about 40 dollars a day they want me to sit there even well after... hmmm. If I get that call I will be extremely cool and wait to be fired, b/c I am not a machine. I have great quality with great production. But I am a person. I am just wondering if everyone is working every single minute too.
But why would QA be the one to call? - Then again...

You are correct about them calling about large discrepancies between the time card and actual production time, as my TL has sent us e-mails regarding this. However, anytime I had production-related issues, my TL has contacted me, not QA. Would love to hear from any QA to see if this is now part of their duties. When I worked at Keystrokes, QA was supposed to call if you were away from your desk for more than 15 minutes to find out why you were not working your schedule. As if QA didn't have enough to do without doing some supervisory work without a pay increase.
This seems reasonable to me, really. First, new people - everywhere can expect companies to

be watching them more at first. Inevitably some hires are mistakes and won't work out. Plus, of course, they want employees to start off right, with a firm understanding of and adherence to what's expected.

Second, though, that basic lines number is the minimum acceptable. Below that an employee isn't worth the expense to keep on. So minimum may be good enough for someone brand new if it takes the full shift to meet it, but they definitely want higher production and will be looking for those people who are trying to turn an 8-hour official shift into an unofficial 6-hour shift.

You do have my sympathies. I used to do 8 in 5 myself, and had worked myself up to very good incentive pay, before WMX decided it wanted people to actually work full time if they were going to get full-time benefits. :(

Micromanaging
Feb 25, 2014

Lately it just seems like we're being micromanaged to death and I'm getting sick of it.  I'm trying to stick it out until the end of the year and take early retirement, but honestly I just don't know if I'm going to make it.  I used to enjoy going to work, even at Nuance, but now I dread it.  Any suggestions for someone who feels totally down in the dumps over this whole thing?  ...

QUIT MICROMANAGING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jan 28, 2010

Audit feedback T'ing me off, sorry.  I fail to see how adding or leaving out "a" and "the" should be anywhere near a major category, downgrade or not.  Absolutely none of the "errors" I am being dinged for have any effect on patient care.  I completely reject audits as a valid assessment of my skill, especially since dictators are obviously not held to the same standard.  We are given too many sets of rules to follow. D* if you do, d* if you don't.  H ...

Synernet And Micromanaging

Any feedback here on recent emails?  My 2 cents about this... Just wanted to add to the e mail: "If in bathroom for 16 minutes make sure to bring cell phone in and call helpdesk to notify. Anything less would be unacceptable." PS: To management: Micromanaging the peon does not make a disorganized management team better, it just makes it feel more poweful.  Perhaps a better idea would be to address the disorganization from top down; fix the system; and last but not least, put steps in ...
