Gotta read this - Nuance big quarter earnings

Posted: Aug 07, 2012

Gee whiz, Nuance's revenue was up approximately 34% in the 3rd quarter ending June 2012 especially in their healthcare market.  This sickens me IMO.

Let's all strike - Tired of lining their pockets for pennies

[ In Reply To ..]
"In the third quarter of fiscal 2012, Nuance recognized GAAP net income of $79.3 million." Why is it exactly that our pay has been cut so drastically and we are struggling financially when our employer is making so much profit? We need to stop enabling them.

Easier said than done and they know it - sickandtired

They know the jobs are hard to come by and that is why they keep doing what they do and that is why we can't stop them because many of us are just trying to hold on and pay our bills best we can until a door opens that we can get out. Nuance knows this. Don't think for one minute they aren't taking advantage of this situation because they are in every way possible. I am for a business making a profit. Not for a business starving their employees while they line their pockets in layers and layers

Also sick and tired - and broke

Apparently this is not the only board where MTs are showing their frustration with Nuance. Here is another one where they are trying to glorify this company and then look at the responses below.

I forgot to add this post which well sums it up.

In interviewing with other companies recently, the trend with the bigger companies is very very evident. I've worked in the field since 2005, and here is what has gone on regardless of company. (BTW, I have 20 plus years experience, just not online).

1) Pay cuts in line rate.
2) Speech wreck used to be 2/3 of straight type, now 1/2.
3) Holidays plus PTO were 15 days per year, now 10 for newbies.
4) Holiday pay was double, then 1.5, now 1.25.
5) An increasing amount of our own time being used to sign in/sign out at multiple sites each shift.
6) An increasing amount of our own time being used to "double check" our timecard for accuracy.
7) Accuracy was 98%, now 99%.
8) QC's gaming the system along with the quality management team - telling us "either way is okay," then counting it wrong on the quarterly quality audit.
9) The QC personel training manual is very very evidently written by someone whose native language is NOT English.
10) The QC personnel have very American names, but their English grammer on the e-mails and comments is totally butchered (maybe they are natural born Americans with ESL?)
11) Audio quality is deteriorating very very much so, probably because of all the translations from one platform to another.
12) Coddling of doctors so that they are encouraged to dictate from whatever planet they happen to be on at the moment, leaving audio quality a nightmare.

The field is going downhill rapidly, especially over the last few years.

Sad thing is, all the companies pushing their speech wreck will eventually find themselves in a wreck of a lawsuit when something slips by the transciptionist, the doctor, the nurse at the hospital and causes a wreck. Bet it won't slip by the attorney.

there should be a law against this - cassie

There should be a law against a company reporting such high profits while their employees whom must have a decorated education makes minimum wage. After all, aren't we the ones that are making the money for them. Does any body know what they get paid by the clinics/hospitals per line for edit/standard compared to what they then pay us? They aren't paying any overhead to employ us, we are paying our own overhead, our own supplies, etc...so what's their excuse. Wonder how much the top, top dog is making a year and I wonder have they ever worked production at our crap wages, have they ever worked as an MT at all, do they even have any education in the medical field. I wonder all these things, but reality it wouldn't even matter.

this is the way the game has always been played. The poor get poorer and the rich get richer.

The rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and - the middle class goes extinct. nm

Gotta Wonder
Mar 23, 2010

Gotta wonder if all these patients with "poor hearing acuity" are really deaf or just can't understand the doctor (which I can totally identify with, but feel my hearing acuity is fine). So patients are at fault also if they can't understand the doctor?    ...

Just Gotta Gripe
Oct 30, 2009

I am just so exasperated right now!  I'm a new MT, been at it a little over 3 months.  I think the company I work for is pretty good.  We have mostly good dictators, good platform, plenty of work, and nice QA and staff.  I type 70 wpm, and I add to my word expander and autocorrect daily.  Our minimal required line count per week is 6,000, and I'm only averaging about 3,500 to 3,800.  I'm putting in 50 hours or a little more and still can ...

OK Gotta Write This
Jun 17, 2010

ASR:  tachy fell axis I am wiping the tears from my eyes on this one.  What a stupid program.  I swear it is written by the Indians.  I had a wonderful English-speaking clear-as-day doctor yesterday, first name of Daniel, and the ASR did not get 75% of his dictation.  It was just words and gibberish.  It was a crying shame.  That could have been a helpful tool in that instance.  It should have been able to transcribe him perfectly and editing should have ...

Gotta Vent!
Dec 11, 2011

Okay guys, I just have to vent because I know many of you share the same frustrations and will understand where I'm coming from. I've got over 10 years of transcription experience and I'm making $10 an hour. This is a $5 per hour cut from what I made in a larger city before I had to move to a smaller one in a different state. I got divorced earlier this year and this is no longer enough to survive on for me with just one income in the household now. I pride myself on being a good, ...

They Gotta Be Getting Desperate
Feb 16, 2012

After not being audited since last August, I just received an audit.  Do you suppose it was because I went over my CCM's head and complained to her supervisor about not hearing from her regarding the loss of a 10 minute report when DQS went down?  I thought they were going to slam me but, lo and behold, a near-perfect audit.  They gotta be getting desperate for MTs who can transcribe this crap and make it even moderately coherent.  Next time I think I'll leave profu ...

Gotta Gripe
Jul 19, 2012

I've got a gripe.  I hope this is not too long but would really like suggestions if any of my fellow MTs have been in this predicament.  If you are QA turned MT, don't bother to reply.  I don't need sarcasm to start my day. The company I worked for went into partnership with another company.  The new company even changed the name of the company and the new partner is the president of the company.  We're supposed to make all complaints to her; however ...

Gotta Vent
Oct 24, 2014

I am doing a dictation from a doctor who sounds like he's got a mouth full of mush.  His speech is slurred and I can't understand half of what he's saying.  As a result, this report is going to QA with so many blanks in it that it looks like Swiss cheese.  At this point I really don't care any more. I've had it up to my eyeballs with this guy and everyone like him.  If I could afford to quit, I would right now. ...

Feeling so frustrated that MDs can't be bothered to articulate... The company I work for "dings" me for blanks...but their QA is merciless about mistakes. (Non-critical, stupid grammatical issues, i.e., "The son agreed with the plan" versus "HIS son agreed with the plan.") I am feeling like I can't do this anymore. I am GOOD at what I do, but when audio sucks, what do they expect?  I am screwed no matter what I do. If I made more than $13 an hour, (which took me ye ...

Don't You Just HATE This..........(I Gotta Fuss, Lol)
Feb 22, 2010

Why is it that when a doctor cannot pronounce a medication they will spend FIVE minutes TRYING to sound it out and STILL leave me with no clue what they are trying to say, when it would be MUCH quicker if they could just SPELL it?  I mean if you can't pronounce it, just SPELL it, even if you spell it wrong, I can find it quicker from it being spelled to me incorrectly than having to decipher out how you MIGHT be pronouncing it! Just my rant for today, lol. ...

CRITICAL ERRORS - Okay, a patient comes into the hospital, gravely ill.  They take some xrays (I am radiology so I use that example). Maybe a CT or an MRI.  The radiologist is allerted this is a rush because the patient is so ill, he calls the report to the MD taking care of the patient to let him know what he sees.  Then, after he calls the report, he dictates it, and I type it...I make a mistake and put, lets say, no congestive heart failure noted, because he mumbles and talks ...

Found this in the Letters to Editor in AdvanceWeb.com. :   I feel compelled to voice my thoughts on the topic of credentialed MTs; the reason being I work with a fantastic group of MTs under my management. They are highly skilled, productive and accurate and simply the best staff to manage. Here are my thoughts. * Are Credentialed MTs better? If t ...

Good Morning MQ-ville. I was reading a posting below, started yesterday "Whadayaknow" and there were a couple of responses to the posting that I think are worth you reading. We should all be much more PROACTIVE in the auditing process and ask questions or if we disagree, tell them we do!  We should also not take BS sitting down!  I agree that too many of us have just accepted being fed crap because we've begun to feel "beaten down".
