F.I.E.S.A. survival strategies - Here are a few

Posted: Jun 29, 2014

Bear in mind that planted errors are being utilized to weed you out. (You are being told it is so that you become a better MT). So, if you decide to stick it out and learn the Nuance system of scoring reports, here are a list of the things I know they watch for when planting errors throughout the reports. I think we have to stick together, so here ya go!  (Wish I had had a QC share this with me)

Things to watch out for:

medication allergies to prescribed medications (we should be RNs to do this job)

left versus right discrepancies

labs stated differently from one paragraph to another

age differences

height and weight that do not calculate to the stated BMI (yes, you actually have to calculate this)

in the sleep reports by the doctor that talks so fast with a mouth full of mush... be on the lookout for percentages that do not add up to 100% and different "minutes" or numbers of apneas, hypopneas, RERAs from one paragraph to the other. He is also famous for requesting one montage directly after stating this is another type of report (these must be flagged).

Gravidas and paras that are not possible.

Odd dosages for medications, especially the mg v mcg but also inflated amounts (this would be a HUGE point error)

BIG ONE: Capital letters for brand names on all medical equipment, ALLEVYN bandages, for instance, not Allevyn. (Don't believe ANYTHING that the doctors spell themselves). (But not on medications. We follow Saunders Pharmaceutical word book and Stedman's on these).

Hyphenated compounds. For instance, acute-on-chronic kidney disease.

Especially on the difficult northwestern US account, if you get lucky enough to get that lovely orthopedic surgeon who has the most wonderfully LONG templates... make yourself a new version of it after eliminating all the mistakes in the ones saved. THEY PICK THESE TO PIECES BECAUSE THE NEWBIES TO THE ACCOUNTS NEVER KNOW BETTER.

The QCs to this account are mostly pulling his work now, but the other templates are just as bad. Fix them up, save your own copies, then insert your own copies and continue the report from your own version. Huge time saver.

You will have a steady diet of new competitors on any account now for all the lines... the pools are divided REALLY unfavorably toward the MTs and QCs can pick and choose whatever accounts they want to work when they go on production mode. They can choose certain MDs, even certain WTs. MTs are at a distinct disadvantage here.

Stick with it and MAKE THEM downsize you for honorable reasons if they are so inclined.

IMO, speaks volumes of their character. No excuse, just none. Every day I get the same crap and watch others pick out the good ones, and the supervisor as well as the company allow it. IMHO it doesn't matter anymore about the company, the supervisors, or the ones that partake in the cherry picking anymore. In the end, it will all come out.

Today I had the 3 worst dictators in my accounts ... all day long. I was so ready to just throw it all in and say "take this job and shove it." If I didn't need the pittance they pay us, I would have, but I'm too old to find another job.

I can't leave either. Stuck, tied to the Nuance whipping post. - They bought me. They can deal with me.

I guess they don't like my "reasonable accommodations" and all that. So much easier to deal with "healthy" MTs that can be shipped off to any shift at a whim.

Shame on them.

Not only their character but especially their honesty. For those of us capable of doing the job Kudos!

Survival

Ok>  I just have to ask and I know it is all going to be negative, but here it goes.  I am a divorced 52 year old woman who has found herself out of job managing transcription.  I have now been with Nuance for two months.  I have a mortgage and oodles of bills.  Is there any way possible I can survive being with them.  The first few weeks I started, I found my average hourly to be around 8 bucks an hour......I was sick.  Now, almost 3 months later, closer to ...

Tips For Survival At Transcend

Repeating the former warnings I have seen on this board and about this company: 1.  Get EVERYTHING in writing, no matter how trivial.  They are masters of deceit. 2.  Say nothing to no one.  Get it in writing. 3.  If you are forced to talk to a supervisor, just keep your ears open - that click, click, click in the background is that supervisor typing everything that is being said or sending an IM to someone for help with a response that can be interpreted in 2 ways.&n ...

Tips And Strategies To Help Stay Focused And Productive...
Apr 05, 2011

Hi all, I have to do a Powerpoint presentation this week in front of a group of MT students.  I would really appreciate it if you would be willing to share any tips or ideas that you may use that has helped you remain focused and productive while working in a home environment.  I've been an MT for over 20 years and worked from home for 14.  Other than the obvious strategies that I use like getting dressed, eating breakfast, turning the phnoe off, and dedicating workspace, I& ...
